I’ve been experiencing excruciating abdominal pain, off and on, since last September. My doctor put me through so many tests with no diagnosis. Two weeks ago, I experienced it again. Last night the pain was so intense, I passed out. I know that I don’t digest nuts and corn so I simply avoid them. I really can’t pinpoint what is causing this and last night’s episode was very scary. I think I should bypass my PCP and see a specialist.

I had the same thing and typically about twice per year. I would have excruciating abdomen pain and I would either break out in sweats or chills and would have to call my wife as I knew I was going to pass out due to previous episodes.

I had almost given up and my Doctor suggested it was a fiber problem and I should try metamucil.

I now take 1 glass in the morning with my breakfast; (about a tablespoon with 8 ounces of water). Since I have taken it, I have yet to have an attack.

I really think a lot of us are "fiber deprived" because of the foods we eat (or don't eat). I found this article which I think may help you. I have not had an attack in over 5 years since taking metamucil.

Nothing like a gut-cramping sh*t to make you pray to God almighty. Drink a tall glass of warm water first thing in the morning and let it soak in for 20 minutes before eating or drinking anything else. Avoid binging on nuts or sunflower seeds. Drink another large glass of warm water on a relatively empty stomach 20 minutes before dinner. Add some fiber to your diet, some fruit and vegetables, and take a walk every evening.

Hi everyone.... this has been happening to me for over 25 years! I'm about to be 38. It happens sporadically but I have an answer for EVERYONE experiencing these symptoms. I read a comment about the "colon dumping" and think it's associated with the diagnosis I got 2 years ago. It's called Acute Syncope. It has many causes but upset stomach and "harsh" bowel movements that somehow cause your blood pressure to drop severely. My blood pressure was really low even after an hour or two after the incident. Could be our stomachs don't agree with certain foods and cause the colon dumping then blood pressure to drop and fainting. Happens out of no where, mine this morning was so bad I just prayed and took deep breaths through the ordeal. It freaked my husband out when it happened couple years ago.

Not sure if you will read this or not but the muscle spasms under ribs I had from 16 to 24 and I thought it was from a broke rib I had when I was in a car wreck at 16 but at 24 I found out it was gall stones and those were gall baladder attacks. Maybe get that check out if you are still having the pain. My pain would start actually right under my right shoulder blade then radiate to the other side then move to my lower stomach and then my chest. I could not sleep when this happened and it was usually at night but a few times in the day. I would have to alternate between a hot compress and Ice to where it was numb. Finally it would go away. Gall stones were getting stuck in my bile duct and this caused the pain.

I’ve had this same issue.. today was my second experience which is what led me here. I wake up in the morning with a stomach ache like I need to go to the bathroom, I go to do so, and then just pass out. Once I come back to I have no idea what happened, I’m all sweaty and need to lay back down for a little until I can actually go to the bathroom! First time it happened was 6 years ago, my parents took me to the ER and they said I was dehydrated. Which made sense, I drank a lot that weekend and very little water. This time tho, no alcohol in weeks and drink tons of water daily. So weird!

Maybe you were having appendicitis. I had a friend that would have terrible abdominal pain that would go away after an hour or so... it was a severe pain too but would eventually go away. She went to a doctor usually every time it happened and they didn't know what it was until one day she went to a new doctor and they discovered it was appendicitis.

This happened to me over 5 years ago and then again last night. I’m pretty sure the gas pains were caused from something I ate - this time bring bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeños. I woke up in the middle of the night with an upset stomach and bad gas pains in my lower abdomen. While sitting on the toilet usually with diarrhea too, the pain would cause me to sweat and get clammy. I’d then feel like passing out. I thought I tried to lay on the bathroom floor but I must’ve stood up to pull my pants up cuz I woke up on the floor in the hall outside the bathroom. The previous time I passed out while walking back into the bedroom. Freaked out my wife.

I think it must be from an extremely upset stomach from eating something too spicy or bad, and it’s my body’s way of dealing with the extreme gas pains.

I plan on trying to lay down right away if I feel it coming on next time. It’s difficukt though cuz I’m usually on the toilet at the time.

I am so glad to hear you have taken care of your attacks by taking Metamucil. You described exactly the same issue I was having. About twice per year and my doctor also recommended Metamucil. As far as I'm concerned it has literally been a life saver. I too have not had an episode since I started taking it. I would love to hear from others who have not tried this but are still having problems and should give it a try. I too believe it is a fiber issue which creates the cramps causing the Vega nerve to shut down your body to prevent further damage to your body (defense mechanism). The metamucil provides fiber which helps with bowel functions and eliminating the cramping problem. Hopefully, we are on to something here that will help others. Thank you!

I also experience these symptoms, just last night I had the worst attack ever. Last week on Tuesday I had a colonoscopy he took 2 biopsy and the same week on Thursday I had an upper Gi they took 2 more biopsy but found nothing from the 2 tests but waiting on the results of the 4 biopsy’s I’ve been dealing with IBS for nearly 10 years. It seems the doctors have no clues to why this happens to some people. in the beginning they said it was my gall bladder so it was removed. And when my symptoms never changed they diagnosed me with IBS

Proctalgia fugax is a condition characterized by episodes of severe pain in the rectum and anus. While it is not linked to a specific disease, the intense muscle spasms of the levator ani muscle are thought to be affected by a muscle disorder or nerve condition. I have this every so often.. this is what my Dr. told me I have. My mom had it too. Mine happens at night mostly but have had a few during the day

Was looking for some answers my main concern is I pass out while having pains always early morning and having to use the bathroom. Now this is when I’ve noticed every episode when I am out at a gathering and eat and drink alcohol. Here’s the thing it doesn’t always happen but yesterday I remember eating nuts. So food, alcohol, cake and nuts is what I ate. Maybe nuts is the key

I would say I would have an episode every 1-2 year but the pain is extremely excruciating that I can’t forget my last one. This time, the stomach pain woke me up at 2am and I suddenly used the restroom. That’s when I started having the same symptoms. The first minutes of pain while trying to relieved was the worst. I would start sweating, feeling numb in my arms and legs and cold and nauseated. It seems like there is a relief when you started passing out stool…and then, it goes again the extreme stomach pain. Since I don’t want to pass out coz I’m getting blackout vision, I tried labor breathing. It seems better than holding your breath. As I pass the stool, it becomes watery. Since I can’t bear to sit on the toilet within moments, I feel like I needed to lay down on the bathroom floor coz I feel so weak and exhausted. And when it starts all over again, I would crawl back to the toilet. I had this ordeal for nearly 2 hours when I’m supposed to get ready for work now. I have to call on another co-worker to come in for me while I was lying on the floor. I can’t remember how I managed to grab my phone from its charger when it keeps on alarming during my 3am wake up calls. I would never want to go through this again. I can bear any pain but not this. In the past I always blamed stomach flu. This time I’m still feeling feeble and stomach pain a bit and coming down with low grade fever. I’m watching what I’m eating though I have appetite but anything solid foods triggers unsettling stomach pain. Though this is the first time that I’m still having leftover stomach pains after 24 hours. I forgot to mention that in January 2022, my doctor had me take a stool test for parasites though none found. Thank you.
