Build up in gas, I get sweaty and clammy, and then get a severe piercing sharp pain in my lower abdomen. I haven't passed out yet from the pain, but i've come close -- easily one the most painful experiences in my life, i'm doubled over in pain and can't move. Like others, I try to relax and do breathing exercises. Gas-x won't do anything because it takes too long to take effect, I would need relief immediately. The bulk of the time it happens in the late evening (8-11pm) or early hours of the morning (2-5 am).
Happens every few weeks, this has been going on for years and i've just dealt with it, it's only a few seconds in duration but feels like an eternity. I haven't bothered my Doctor about it, I don't even know how I would explain it, I can't seem to find any correlation between when it happens and diet. I get plenty of fiber (daily shredded wheat) and also do greek yogurt daily.

When in severe pain or after a bad emotional surprise, the body starts to go into shock. One of the main consequences of shock is decreased perfusion. Perfusion is simply how blood filters through the tissues of the body and is carried to all extremities. When in shock, blood tends to pool in the vein and other peripheral parts of the circulatory system, decreasing the amount of blood being transported to the heart. With less blood to pump, heart rate increases and blood pressure drops. This accounts for fainting in people experiencing severe pain or who have just learned disturbing news.

This is what we all have guys!! I have this too. It's horrible and goes as fast as it comes. When mine starts up if I have time I immedeatly turn on the tub on hot water and jump in and sit there. But the whole almost passing out and getting sweat clammy and pale thing the last two times I don't have time to fill the tub. I can only lay there and wait and make myself stay concious. I know you can all relate. Please Google Proctalgia fugax.....it's basically a charlie horse in our bums. And it sucks!
Proctalgia fugax (or levator syndrome) is a severe, episodic, rectal and sacrococcygeal pain.[1] It can be caused by cramp of the pubococcygeus or levator ani muscles.[2]

food has nothing to do with it....that last guest post was the correct answer.
this is how I deal with it....when I feel the pain coming, I turn my fan on full blast by my bed and soak a cloth with COLD water for the back of my neck. If on the toilet I use the cloth, but If I feel that passing out thing, I go lay on the bed in front of the fan and if I sh*t on the bed, well, I sh*t on the bed.
I also do my best and notice if it's been3-4 days since a bowel movement and then talk a laxative, to elivate the problem before it starts.
My doctor totally agreed with this process.
