I had Gastric bypass in 98,then TT in 03.On Sept of 12 I had emergency adhesions surgery.Seems like the Dr that did my Tummy Tuck, forgot to unfold the omentum.left it all folded over on the right side{where I had a lot of trouble in 03].So,now,I think Ive got a golf ball sized seroma in my belly button area..From what everyone on this forum says, draining it dosent seem to work,it just spreads the ..staph?...So what to do...what to do...what to do...When I ask my doc,he shrugs his shoulders and smiles.Same thing as when I ask my cats....

I had a historectomy 4 weeks ago and bladder repair and developed what they say is a seroma. It is extremely painful and its pretty discouraging because i was dong so well until this seroma appeared, It is getting harder and larger and its scaring me. Are they usually painful because you said nothing about pain?

It has been 11 1/2 yrs since my abdominal/cancer surgery. 2 plus weeks ago I noticed wetness under my belly flap from the surgery. It ended up a Seroma from the cancer surgery of 2001. Go figure. I never had dicomfort and I never felt any lump. I did have mesh put in due to a previous ruptured hernia on my incision from a c-section in 1986. That rupture did not happen until 2005. I am told by my pcp that I am sure weird. I also had neck surgery many years ago to repair a veinous mass. About 2 months after the surgery the incision on my neck absolutely exploded. I was getting ready for work (at our local hospital) and had just finished putting on makeup and it totally exploded while I was looking in the mirror. What a mess. That time it was a combo of blood and other not so nice looking fluid. The surgeon at the time put a dressing on it and since I worked at the hospital I just kept seeing him at work and had new dressings until it totally stopped and healed very well. Now I am seeing a surgeon for the belly leak. Hope there are no complications. Since this is a somewhat repeated experience, what should I seek looking forward. In case of any unexpected future surgery.

I have had surgery a year agoto have extra skin removed after a large weightloss, I have a saroma, It feels as though someone is haveing a tug of war and ripping the right side of my stomach along with burning. I have very hard lumps on the right of my belly button. My right side of stomack is twice the size of my left. I have had a ct scan, ultrasounds and they can see it, my Doctor had it drained and they said it was infected, the drainage was blood. My sergeon proceded to tell me that because the hospital room where it was drained is not sterele. Now he is telling me that I am bigger are one side, He says everyones body is. I think maybe a little but not like one side looks pregnant and I turn the other way its flatter. Its so embarassing I cannot take it, clothes dont look right and I am in aweful pain, he refuses to help me. What do I do?

You have no idea how true it may be you are rotting from the inside out. I'm a 68 yr old female. Had bi lateral mast 10 years ago with TRAMreconstruction. Never felt good. Diagnosed with multiple maladies. Several misc surgeries. Finally had hysterectomy six months ago in hopes of helping repeated uti's, other female disorders. Many couts of colitis. Was aware of seroma for 10 years. Many drainings. Told not to worry about it. Felt I had horrible halitosis. Was to be a routine surgery with laparoscopy...Hit seroma on one of the punctures and thought they had punctured a bowel. ROTTEN seroma. Said the odor was horrible...of course I was immediately opened up and cleansed. Seroma coming back. Been in hospital couple times. Right now. Other than having to wear binder for seroma....haven't been sic. My rheumatologist and Internist are of the opinion my immune system has been fighting HRD for 10 years now. Back under the plastic surgeon care. BUT. No one seems to know or have answer. I do know I have mesh from ten years ago. If eruption happensagain will have to be opened up again and cleaned out. Told it would be a hard surgery..have researched and have found nothing to compare. Was told this was so AWFUL... Had many doctors, nurses, healthcare workers in and out of my room like I was some real oddity.

I too had surgery 6 months ago had drains inserted 3 different times because of seroma. I keep getting an infection so have been on antibiotics for almost as long. My incision has healed perfectly but it's whatever isn't healing inside. My PS did a second surgery to scrape the seroma. I also get very anxious and feel very tired.
I pray that we can get a hand on this so that if can get my life back.
With this all said I have to say that my PS has been excellent.

Thx for writing. I'm the 68 yr old w all the complications. Yes. My PS has also been good so that's a bonus. I guess it's just my body. What rotted was blood that had become part of seroma. Now I'm so uncomfortable wearing binders. I'm going to PS in one day as the seroma is not improving. After many drainings, infections, drains, surgeries, he may decide to go back in and collapse as he was not the one to puncture the rotten seroma.hematoma..he said the mesh may have to come out. At 68 I would like to have a few years left of good health. I will be back on as soon as I get more info. Thx for yours

To the lady that 68 and had seroma for 10 years and found it by doing another surgery. I had spleen surgery 21 months ago and have 3 seromas in abdomen, and of course its not coming up on diagnostics but I'm not functional and not feeling well because its toxins in my body and now its taking space in my abdominal cavity, which is causing breathing problems and low grade fevers and cant get a darn doctor to believe as I watch myself worsen and its the most terrifying situation because I have seen umpteen doctors and they can't believe that your body can do this. I have said repeatedly that seromas has caused this whole issue and need surgical removal asap, if anyone knows of a doctor who has recently taken out a seroma, and believe there patients, please tell me cause I don't have a spleen and I've had to watch my self just worsen and endure these seromas for almost 2 years after a spleen surgery. I'm fearing that the long standing fluid has caused pseudo bursa!!! I would appreciate any names of doctors who you could refer me to asap, tired of laying here and enduring this due to doctors not believing me. Any help would be so greatly appreciated cause this is going on since July 12 to Apr 14.
