My daughter, 16, just had a tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy on 6/16/08. She is in severe pain and just trying to get through it. She is worried because she is supposed to compete in a national volleyball tournement 6/27-6/30/08 which is only one week away. I'm afraid if she does play she may do some damage. What is the time period when patients can return to physical activity?

Hi sammib,

The thing is that recovery is different for everybody, but any sport activity is forbidden during this process. Until she is all done with recovery she won’t be able to play volleyball or any other sport. Her throat need to get all healed up so no viruses or bacteria can affect the wound. If she gets to active, she might even have problems with bleeding from the wound. What kind of medication is she using right now? Did she have any complications after the procedure? What kind of food is she eating? IS she having any problems with swallowing hard foods?

I my opinion she should really skip this game or she might have complications later in life.
