Ok.....i am no where near an expert...and have agreeance with mostly everyone on here, even those dissagreeing with eachother.....Yes i do not agree with the girl pharm tech. However i do take adderall 30 and prozac 20...each once daily....i look at them completly seperate...i dont care if im not 100% consentraded every day so might not take my adderall everyday but always take my Prozac.....Anti depresants are not addictive at all....sorry to say but if they were they would be another street drug people would give money for....i have never met anyone whos feening for an anti depresent...if i met one i would laugh......people who start them have a hormone imbalance....and there r many people who think they r depressed, yet they feel no difference....these people are excuse makers that just want an easy way out, or someone that need alot more help.... And for my last note I agree with the person who said watch what u say about Pharm techs....because if ur all takin adderall im sure u know it is EVERYWHERE and is sold illegally all the time............and Pharm techs who r actually professionally trained....Arn't tryin to say they know the exact answer ...but they def have a more knowlegable background and idea than someone who just focuses on Adderall as a party drug........addiction is no joke and anyone who ever is addicted...definately knows it...admitting it doesnt matter.

To the guest who posted on 2/28/09 at 5:09 PM, I know this is long overdue but just figured I would give an answer just in case you still have not found out. When you are warned by a doctor or pharmacist of avoiding grapefruit juice and other juices while taking certain medications, it is because of the mechanisms by which drugs are metabolized in the body. There is a class of enzymes in your body known as Cytochrome P450 (CYP450) enzymes; some of these enzymes include CYP3A4, CYP2D6, CYP2C19, etc. A great majority of medications and other substances are metabolized (broken down) in your body by these enzymes; however, grapefruit juice INHIBITS these enzymes (i.e., the enzymes cannot function properly --> cannot break down drugs); and thus, if you are taking a medication that has a grapefruit juice warning, it means that that drug is most likely metabolized by the CYP450 enzyme pathway, and if you drink grapefruit juice while taking that medication, you ultimately inhibit the metabolism of that drug, which will then INCREASE the effects of the drug, which in some cases, can be extremely dangerous. Hope this helps. :-)

Hey,
My name is Aaron. I am 18 years old and was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 3. Through out my life I have been trying to find the correct medication to treat my ADHD. I started taking Adderall XR 30 mg. once a day and everyday (except for one day because I was really really sick because of the people I live with, as in I got it from them not from the Adderall). I really like the effects that Adderall has given me. I am more focused, and more energized throughout the day. Very early on I had side effects, but they were nothing serious and they no longer come about. Throughout my life I have struggled with completing tasks, and I had a big concern with procrastinating. During my time so far on Adderall I no longer have these problems. I am doing a lot better for the most part, keywords being "most part". I know that I also have a pretty severe case of OCD. I tried taking OCD meds awhile back but stopped taking them because I "felt better". That is all beside the point, I am posting because I have a very important question. First off I don't know if I have schizophrenia or bipolar disorder or OCD. I researched all of these disorders very thoroughly from very reliable sources so that is not the concern. I am around 60% sure it's OCD. I have disruptive or unwanted thoughts (a symptom of OCD) a lot of the time, which started around 1 year ago, (I cannot stand these thoughts) for example I love Lebron James and part of my mind is always saying f**k Lebron (unwanted thought that is very disturbing), another thing that has occured is me going into some sort of stage that would exaggerate reality (a symptom of Bipolar Disorder and psychosis) for example every time I shot (basketball) around by myself I would acctually think of my self as a NBA all-star (this has passed, but was once present). But after reading up on all of these disorders I am even more leaning towards the assumption that I have OCD along with ADHD. So my question is is there ANY med on this earth that I can take to help me "free my mind, that is usually trapped with unclear or disruptive thoughts" , keep in mind i'm looking for a med that will lower OCD and will not do any INTERACTING with the Adderall that I take?, the Adderall helps my mind with OCD for the most part for most of the time, but sometimes its worse, and I feel it could get severe if I do not take action, so a knowledgeable human being please answer this!

I was diagnosed with adhd at 13 im currently 30, for the last year i have been on adderall taking 40 mg twice a day, just recently realized that a lot of the problems I have cold be associated with depression so i got put on  prozac 100mg once daily and also ativan 1mg as needed for my panic attacks which are really bad. i had open heart surgery 8/19/09 and my depression seems to have stemed from that. my problem is that i am doing fine on the meds but since i started taking the prozac if i get hot i start sweating a lot. i dont know if its the adderall or the prozac because my dr switched my adderall to the extended release same time i got on the prozac but a month later i didnt like the extended so i got back on the regular. i just need this to stop i work where the ac is not that good and im just dying i cant function at work without the adderall and the prozac has seemed to help me so much with my i guess u would say depression. the funny thing is that im not depressed just had a hard time dealing with a lot of things in my life. i guess you dont have to be technically depressed to have a chemical imbalance.  anyone experience the sweating im going crazy i need it to stop

To the person who said antidepressants aren't sold on the street and aren't addictive. I am currently on Prozac, and I have noticed my tolerance building up a lot lately. I may not get a physical withdrawl, but when I don't take it I get even more depressed since my brain isn't as used to making more serotonin. Also, Prozac is used in conjuction with some street drugs in order to make the effects last longer. I won't say which ones though, because I don't want anyone to do them. I have had several close friends lately start doing the combo I'm speaking of, and it destroys people. Most of them have court cases soon because they don't realize what they are doing. That's how messed up it gets them when combined with things. And by itself, SSRI's can definitely be abused. If you take too many of them it causes a euphoric effect. I mean, sure most people won't buy them on the street, but some people do search them out for their own little twisted cocktails. Most of these chemicals we sell are all life destroyers. We are selling death in the form of a capsule to people and just telling them to only take so much, knowing that some of them will abuse it anyways.

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND????  This is the biggest of load or c**p I have
read.  These drugs are not related in anyway other than that they work
with Dopamine.  You could be sued for giving medical advice like
"...stop your Med's THEN call your doctor..."  EVERYTHING you said is
total WRONG!  I believe there is another post that corrects your major
errors...I hope you don't give your friends advice...

Prozac and adderall are not at ALL the same drug! Adderall is an amphetamine and Prozac is an SSRI.. They don't do the same things at all. In fact, I am prescribed adderall to COUNTER attack the side effect of drowsiness that I get from Prozac

Thank you for correcting that inaccurate post. I was shocked to see such misinformation being given out by someone who works at a pharmacy.

Oh my god you are so retarded it isn't even funny. Prozac and Adderall are not the same drug. Not. The. Same. Drug.

Please, please quit your job and go back to school. That type of misinformation is not okay. Ever.

Many acids actually make the urine more alkalotic, orange juice being one of them. Look it up.

Adderall is a stimulant and Prozac is an anti-depresent. They are in two totally different classes of prescription medication.

Mike, it's important to note that Wellbutrin lowers the seizure threshold, so when combined with a CNS Stimulant like Adderall the risk of seizures is greater than with Adderall or Wellbutrin alone. I wasn't clear on whether or not you were suggesting that the bupropion only be tried if Adderall was discontinued. Either way, that's an important note in my opinion.

They can be taken together, but definitely consult your doc about it. If you're coming off any benzodiazepines (Ativan, Klonopin, Valium, Xanax etc.) or taking Tramadol then buproprion should be avoided as well due to the seizure risk.

And my .02 on the terrible pharm tech:

Adderall is a mix of amphetamine salts, it is not the same as Prozac.

While it can be said that some pharmacy techs are knowledgable and have gone to school, there are just as many who have no idea what the hell they're talking about.

Pharmacy techs (in my state) don't necessarily need to have any sort of special training other than what the employer (like Walgreen's requires). Sometimes they just pull someone who works on the cash register and put them back in the pharmacy, so I would rather not assume the tech I'm talking to knows anything when it comes to pharmacology, drug interactions etc. - I'll just ask the actual pharmacist.

Luckily for me, I have an interest in pharmacology so I've done quite a bit of research on quite a few drugs. This recently led to an argument with a tech at my pharmacy about how Dexedrine is not synonymous with Adderall and another about how methamphetamine is a prescription drug in the United States (brand name Desoxyn).
