Any of you ride your bicycles on icy roads? I rode mine on Saturday morning before the ice melted and had quite an experience. My bike with knobby tires was fine (for the most part). However, my commuter bike was not fine. I will admit, I came close to falling once, but recovered without hitting the ground.
I think I understand riding on ice well enough to make it to work and back on the bike with knobby tires. There may be some other finer things that can only be learned through experience. Do any of you know of those things and could give me (and anybody else here) some advice?

If you are expecting any amount of ice a road bike will not be good. With MTB tires you have more surface area to work with. Since you have both kinds of bikes, you may want to head off-road. Some people also spike there tires with sheet metal screws for MTB in the winter.
