Wow, this is a problem. I was arrested for drunk in charge when actually hyperglycemic. I was going home and an officer made me do a test where I had to walk a straight line. I failed and got thrown in jail! I am out on bail but how do I convince the judge of my being hyperglycemic that night, not drunk? This is not a good thing for my record or reputation. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hello, Guest! So sorry to hear that you have had been arrested over your hypoglycemic episode where the police mistaken you for a drunk. You would think they could have done a breath analyzer test on you. What did they say when you told them you was hypoglycemic? I think you need to get to a doctor and explain to him what had happened. Your physician should be aware of your diabetes and that you could go into hypoglycemia. Hopefully while you are there, you can see about getting yourself assessed as to why you are having hypoglycemic episodes in the first place. You need to be honest with your doctor about your diet and medicine compliance so that you can prevent having low blood sugars in the first place. You should keep snacks with you so that if you feel you are getting lethargic, hungry, and disoriented as well as having visual disturbances, you can eat something to stave off hypoglycemia. Also you will not be accused of being intoxicated. You should be able to get documentation from your doctor and hopefully have your case dismissed.
Has anyone you know (or yourself) been mistakenly drunk but instead you was experiencing a low blood sugar? Were you able to tell the person that you needed something to eat? How did the situation end?
