Hi, heredity plays a causal role in autism. Some studies indicate that also fetal development has great impact on autism predisposition. Parental psychiatric history is vital in determining whether a child will have increased risk for developing autistic behavior. Gestational age at birth less than 35 weeks is defined as risk factor. Parents who had schizophrenia-like psychosis are more prone to having autistic children. It seems that weight for gestational age, parity, number of antenatal visits and parental age are not related with risks for autism development.
