if it is a virus then antibiotics do not work. They are for bacteria. You were getting better because of time, not the antibiotics, and perhaps the steroids also helped. If the antibiotics worked then you would have gotten better a lot quicker. I have been prescribed in the past antibiotics for many viral chest infections which has resulted in me becoming allergic to penicillin and having bad reactions to a lot of antibiotics. This is a common pattern, this is why antibiotics are becoming resistant, such as MRSA, from incorrect and excessive prescribing.

penicillin is the best antibiotic for streptococcus (strep throat) which should make you feel better very quickly. If you are allergic to penicillin, they prescribe alternative antibiotics such as clarithromycin which also is effective against strep throat.

So your provider told you it was viral. which usually take 7-10 days to resolve on their own... the first round of abx did nothing, so you again went to another doctor who gave you steroids and another abx. steroids will help with inflammation, and now you are at the end of the 7-10 day mark and you are starting to get better....Hmmmm.
