Thanks for asking. Now 9 days post-surgery. Pain has been virtually non-existent. Took no pain meds, pyridium or anti-spasmodics at all. Amazing. Bleeding resolved for the most part as of day 5, with a few drops evident upon beginning flow and a little spotting here and there. Incontinence issues are now manageable and fairly minimal. Used a total of two Depends yesterday, and I even took a 4 mile walk around the neighborhood. Those are the positives - - and they are a lot of positives.
My latest concern is that my flow and output have decreased over the last few days. I fear that I may have a clot somewhere in my urethra that is preventing a good flow. Thankfully, I am not totally blocked. Have feelings of incomplete emptying and the need, but not the ability, to double-void. Another recent development is that my penis is somewhat swollen, puffy and spongy. The Resident said that was not uncommon and simply was edema that would resolve on its own. More concerned about the retention. He said to monitor everything over the weekend, which is what I will do. I am praying that I do not develop post-surgery retention (which is the exact reason that I had the procedure in the first place). So, right now, I am concerned and frankly a little scared.

I believe my UCSF HoLEP was done by Dr. Stoller and Li since I met them before surgery. I didn't see Dr. Tzou on the day of surgery. I assume he was not in surgery room though I don't know for sure since I slept before getting to surgery room. I met both Dr. Stoller, Dr. Tzou and Dr. Yi Li during clinic visits before surgery and/or after surgery. It's been almost two months now after my HoLEP and I am very happy with my recovery.

Who has used the services of Dr Nicole L. Miller at Vanderbilt Urology/University?? I would like to hear any positive or negative feedback regarding this doctor, as she is one of the doctors at the top of my list for Holep surgery. Thank you

I am doing considerable research into the HOLEP surgery and I appreciate all the information in these postings. I have a large prostate but no cancer. In addition I have neurogenic bladder and I was not able to urinate at all. I have been using a self catheter since August 2017. My urologist wants to perform a TURP but I'm opposed to this because of all the side affects. Have any of you had neurogenic bladder prior to HOLEP?

My prostate was 100gm. I carried catheter for almost three months before I had HoLEP procedure done early September. Two days after surgery I had my catheter removed. I am recovering very well so far.

My HoLEP was done at UCSF. You may refer to my post on 10/30 about my doctors at UCSF.

I had Holep surgery in Miami, I was lucky to find Dr. Hemendra Shah at the University of Miami, with over 1000 procedures experience. To my knowledge he is the only urologist in South Florida that does holep.

As a Florida resident and one planning for Holep I have a few questions: 1) How was your hospital experience? 2) What was expected of you pre-op? 3) Where did Dr Shah get his training?
Please keep us up to date of your recovery and your thoughts on your procedure.
Thanks so much for sharing! I am glad to hear about this Florida doctor with significant experience.
