Wednesday – 8/18/2021 – Day 35; Recovery has been amazing. Day 1 – no catheter – no blood; Pushed water; Day 2, one eraser size Blood and debris in toilet; Day 31, one eraser size debris in toilet; The only issue during recoup was no BM for 7 days – that was tough! Make sure to start colace 1 week before procedure n continue to focus on fiber after procedure; Script was given to me for 7 days of stool softener n laxative; I started at Day 5 with twice daily Miralax and eventually down to 1x a day; Now, @ Day 36, no more Miralax, but I do focus on fiber n water – grapes, prunes, peaches, oatmeal at breakfast, oatmeal cookie, celery sticks. You do not want to strain. I also stopped wearing a pad in my drawers around Day 35 and now rarely have a spot of pee in drawers size of silver dollar; It happens when, I pushed water and waited to go, I cough or laugh. I guess the volume of water (urine) in bladder w gravity makes me spot – so I condition myself to go after a couple of glasses of water. Around Day 25 or so, I began to experience a slight burn-or a feel of like air going thru ureather “after a pee” along w a sensation in the rectum. A caution of burn after pee is in the post opr papers I was given; I emailed Nurse about it – and she said it was normal and will last weeks or into months as flesh inside P continues to heal. Day 35 or so was first physical stuff I did – cut the grass w push mower. Again, focused on no straining – either on toilet or exertion of energy.
So, I summary, biggest issue was no BM for 7 days; No pain – Bleeding – during recoup. Min debris experienced – 2 occasions; Only thing now is sensation of burn AFTER pee. Focus on fiber and water.

I, too, had a great experience with Dr. Anderson and the staff at Miami Valley South.
I had my surgery on Jan 26 and also stayed overnight. I'm glad I did. I don't think I could have dealt with the bleeding at home. I experienced absolutely no pain. The foley was slightly uncomfortable, but I was used to that. I had been self-cathing for about a year prior. The foley came out at 4am and I left the hospital around noon.
My prostate was 122g as measured by CT scan. Dr. Anderson took out 72 g. They did find cancer - Gleason 6, but only 1% involvement. I had blood in my urine for about 4 weeks. I had minor stress incontinence for about 3 months. Now, I'm doing great. My stream is strong, emptying my bladder and no more incontinence. I still get up a couple times a night, but I'll take it.
At my followup appointment in May, my PSA fell from 6.2 pre-surgery to 0.87. PVR was 38cc (it was 800 cc when I first visited the practice).
I'm extremely pleased with the results and feel so fortunate that I was able to find Dr. Anderson
