Is 231cc the same as 231 grams? If so, that is huge. Mine was 150 grams and Dr. said that was really big. From my experience and research, HoLEP is the only real option for very large prostates. You should have little bleeding, little pain, leakage for a while (depends on the person), and retrograde ejaculation. But you can urinate like a young man, sleep through the night, keep nerves and sexual function. Your urethra will most likely be tender for a few weeks. You may have some blood for a week or so. Make sure you have either a Depends male diaper or heavy pads for the ride home. Afterwards take it easy. It takes time for the prostate to heal because so much was cut out of it. But for a major surgery, it is amazing how little discomfort there is.

Checking in to see how your recovery was from HOLEP? I am scheduled for next week and interested to know long term success - those who had it a year or 2 ago?

I just returned home from my HolEP this morning. A little sore and tender but everything went well. Dr. Anderson wanted to keep the cath in overnight and come in this morning to have it removed. I volunteered to stay the night in the hospital where I new the nurses could take good care of me. The procedure went well, I am a little sore and tender with a little blood in the urine. Dr Anderson and the nurses were supurb at Miami Valley South. Will post later in the healing in the healing process.

Yes Kyle - I think they say cc and grams are about the same..Yes, it is BIG...Where did you do HOLEP n was it with the Moses 2.0...I understand this is a newer version machine with amperage difference than the 1st generation. Most guys do not know if they had 2.0 or not...Do you think I can fly on Saturday if my procedure is on Wednesday? I plan on bringing some Depends; flight is 2 hrs from chicago to ATL and then 2 hours to Louisiana

Yes, My Dr. used the Moses 2.0 laser. You should be able to fly home a day or two after your surgery if needed. I had a two hour car ride home with my wife driving the second day after surgery. I was fine. Slept most of the way. There is really no pain, just tenderness in urethra and inside prostate where so much tissue was removed. I had had a catheter for two weeks prior to surgery, so was thrilled to get rid of it. Also you will need to pee sitting down for a few days because your stream may go everywhere. HoLEP is amazing. I feel sad for all the men getting TURP.

TY for sharing.....so far, I have not heard of any problems with the 2.0 procedure that are not expected.....Retro and some incontinence for a spell........I am no doubt anxious about this....

This is Kyle. I never went back for a follow up. I didn’t see the need since there were no complications. Why drive 200 miles for just a follow up. Plus I didn’t see a urologist locally. After HoLEP, all was well except for leakage.

PS, retrograde ejaculation is weird, but what is crazy is the climax part is more intense than before. I think that is because my prostate was so large it hindered it. I often think sperm came out, but it hasn’t yet. But it feels like it. I waited 17 days before being with my wife. But I had been in catheter, so it had been like 5 weeks since sex, so I didn’t want to wait longer- lol. But the urethra is tender for a few weeks.

Well it's been 60 hours since my Holep procedure and all is well. I am still tender and a little sore from the cath and a little blood but I was able to walk 2 blocks today and it felt good. Dr. Anderson called me this evening to check on my progress. I was a little constipated since the procedure but the Miralax did the job a few hours ago. The leakage seems like it has slowed down but I have found the pads in the underwear does the trick. I am hoping to be able to play golf before the end of the month. More to follow.

I received the 2 page minutes of surgery via email yesterday and it was documented as 75cm3. Not sure how that computes to grams but when the doctor briefed my wife while I was in recovery he drew her pictures of what it started out as and said it was 3 times the size it should be. A median lobe had grown into the bladder blocking the flow of urine and did some damage to the neck of the bladder, which he repaired. Good luck with yours next week in chicago.
