I was having pain so had my Mirena IUS coil removed as the doctor found it had slipped and was sitting in the neck of my cervix.
However prior to this it was the best thing i ever did, after insertion I had 18months of no cramps/periods/mood swings, it was wonderful!
I had abnormal results from a smear so had a colposcopy, 2 biopsies and my IUS whipped out all at once and put it this was i have been in agony since with cramps and pain shooting up my back and down my legs.
After removal of my IUS i was put straight back onto a pill as "it helps the body return to normal". I had some spotting but nothing else.
It was removed on the Friday and by monday i was crippled in pain and am bleeding a lot. I was terrified as I was passing huge clots and watery black liquid coming out of me which is old blood apparently. I seeked advice and was told that so long as the blood doesn't go bright red and is saturating a sanitary pad then to try to wait it out (the red blood can indicate infection).
This morning (5 days after removal) i am passing lots of little clots and bleeding this weird black substance still. I can't wait for it to stop. I don't know how much longer I can cope with this!!
I was advised to book an appointment with my specialist 7 days after removal if it was still on-going but as others have said I feel they will just turn around and say it needs to come out so deal with it.
Really struggling with it though.
If this is the result of the mirena I will not get it put back in despite how great I found it.

I'm also relieved I'm not alone. I've been avoiding "Google" in case of horror stories but I stumbled across this thread and need to share my experience. I've had the Mirena for just over a year and removal was 14 days ago, first 6 days were great, no bleeding but just a few small spots, day 7, 8 & 9 was normal flow and day 10, 11 & 12 I've been bleeding bright red, I've been passing clots the size of chicken tenderloins three times a day and changing pads every hour and sometimes 3 hourly (depending if I'm standing, walking or laying down). The flow slows when laying down. Then the last 2 days the clots have been the size of a chicken breast. I've passed two in 2 days. It's actually like I'm laboring my placenta again. I'm so tired, I'm obviously anaemic so need some iron tablets. I've lost 3kg in 14 days after removal and no change in diet or exercise. During the Mirena I gained 6kgs and again, no change in diet or exercise then either and an extremely cranky disposition in my day to day life. So snappy and cranky! That's all disappearing now too. For now I'm hoping the clots will stop. I'm in private health, it's a 4 week wait minimum to see my OB/GYN but I'm sure I'll only be told that this is all normal. I'm regretting having the IUD for a start. I had tubal ligation 10 years ago but the Mirena was meant to slow the flow...Which it, did but I had constant spotting for 10 months of that year. If I knew this would be the result after removal, I would never had agreed to it. I hope this info is helpful to some people. Nothing is going to be suitable for every single person but I'm just relieved I'm not the only one. I'll never, ever have anything like this again.
