Hello there,

I presume that you have problems with your sinuses because problems with sinuses are one of the leading causes of brownish or bloody mucus. Change in the color of mucus usually means that your sinuses are inflamed. Sometimes you could be even suffering from nasal polyps and then usually your mucus is blood stained. But there is one more condition which can cause blood stained mucus and that is irritated throat.

Causes of blood stained or brownish mucus can be certain types of foods such as chocolate, garlic and red wine. And off course certain bacteria and viruses are usually prime culprits of discoloration of the mucus.

If you still have the same problem it is time to visit your doctor.
