I had a hemorrhoidectomy in May 2015 in a public hospital after two bothced jobs by a privat doctor in March and April. Really can't remember where they were but do know I was in incredible pain after. Panadol forte did nothing and was put on Tramadol which was also useless and then given Tramadol 2 which was better. Remember it took 2+ weeks before I started feeling normal and was scard every time I needed a BM in case I would do something that would affect the surgery.

Am now waiting for a date to have another hemorrhoidectomy for one high up inside and two external and am dreading the thought of it. Really thinking  twice about it but know I need to do it but final answer will be made by the anaethetist given I have a heart condition, had a massive heart attack in 2007 and whether he thinks I am stable enough for the anaesthetic/sedation required for this. Will also depend if I can be taken of some of my heart meds which thin my blood.

I has my surgery 12 days ago (two internals-banding and one external-cutting).. I am horrifying pain, i feel like vomitting of how painful it gets!!! Painkillers are not helping nor is the numbing creams.. I had my BM right next day after surgery it was fine but the others until today is HELL!!! I hate it The only thing that kind of slightly help is right after a BM having a towel soaked in boiling hot water and applying it directly on my anus with pressure, i do that while im bending by the sinK for about 15mins.. i think thats the best reemedy.. I cant wait for feeling normal again, i miss that good normal feeling!!! Goodluck!!!

Hi: Today, 5/15/15 is my 4th. wk. after surgery. I had two large protruding internal hemorrhoids removed. The pain was overwhelming. My doctor prescribed Ibuprofin, Oxycodone, Tamsulosin (to help with the flow of urination- and it actually worked very well),Tucks, Colace, and Metamucil. I took all the medication faithfully. Eventhough, I was still in pain after the 2nd. week of taking the Ibuprofin and Oxycodone, I stopped.I was afraid of the side effect of these two painkillers, especially the Oxycodone. I also felt that they were not sufficiently stopping the pain. I went cold turkey. I do not recommend this, but it has worked for me.

What helped was: lots of water (plenty of it- at least 12 oz. of water during each meal), sitting in warm water (which also induced BM w/o to much pain), Colace, Tucks, Metamucil ( a glass during each meal, and fruits and vegetables. Try to avoid to much solids, and don't eat to much. Just take care of yourself. Avoid getting diarrhea.

Be sure to prepare your body before u go to sleep by taking two Colace,Metamucil (a large glass with two teaspoons). I also eat some raw carrots (scrape the outer thin layer with a knife), and at times I eat some cooked cabbish. All this, will cook in your body while you sleep. For breakfast, I had either a bowl of oat meal, or cheerios, black coffee, and a soft boiled egg. Half hour to an hour later, I explode and I empty myself with little pain.

Have a small lunch, if any. For dinner, at times I would have chicken soup with vegetable. At times, I would eat very little. I'm a heavy eater but here I have to exercise plenty of discipline. Be sure to always drink plenty of water, metamucil and a Colace.

This worked for me. Just be mindful of your body, listen to it. During the early days of the surgery, I envisioned the worsed, as if I would never recovered. I still feel some pain, but hopefully soon I will make a full recovery. I have learned a great deal about what I eat.

Yesterday, I went jogging and I feel great. Hopefully, I will continue to improve.

Take care- sufferer in solidarity!

I too am on day 6 and it has been brutal. I'm up every hour at night sometimes I get a whole 2 hours sleep at once but that's it. Every bowel movement hurts and it's a constant pressure and lots of spasms. Peeing is easier in the tub so be it! I've dropped 10 pounds and am watchful of everything I eat so I guess that's a bonus in all this as I desperately need to loose weight! I look forward to getting through these first 2 weeks!

Hi.I had 3 internal piles removed on 22/5/2015 and this is now 25/5/2015.No pain yet but no BM either, just lots of gas and a bit of bloody leakage.I`m taking antibiotics and paracetamol as prescribed.Lactulose also to soften my stools(if they ever come).

I can feel that the stools are there and want to come out but I guess the packing is holding them in and I don`t want to push much.I feel for all you guys with pain but hope I don`t suffer too much...

Hi all, I've never written in a thread before but I'm a day 6 guy after this op and I'd like to pass on my experience and what I recommend.

so I've experienced the same extreme constant pain as you all. I think too so has my wife. I've moaned at her enough times "this is much worse than giving birth!" Around day 3 was the worse and I passed my first BM day 4. A lot of my energy went into needing to know what and when my first BM would come and how it will feel. Day5 I passed 5 big BMs that really was a bad day. All my laxatives had caught up and we're finally arriving to the party. That, and I came off codine. on day5 my wife got me some Nurofen express capsules for period pain. Guys if you can get hold of some of these.. LIFE SAVER!! They hit the spot. Non of this groggy constipated codine nonsense. Boom I felt like a new man. Almost cocky. That's when I had the 5 BMs. Drained what life there was in me.

Day6 NEW MAN. Almost went out and cut the grass today. I'm just about to go to bed feeling the best I've felt. Good luck and I'll leave you with what I recommend..

Use your feet (like a squatting position) to take the weight when having a BM. Don't sit or use your hands. A lot less pain and strain.

Plenty of hot baths straight after. They soften the stitches as well helping the pain and cleaning.

Nurofen express capsules for period pain or similar. Dogs bollocks.

All the best people. It's not nice and I wouldn't go through it again but it'll be worth it :

Okay - please help...I had "angry" internal hemorrhoids removed on May 8th...by June 8 finally felt 85% back to normal except for discomfort with SOFT (not liquid) stool...like burning discomfort. Had slight spotting but day of 2nd follow up (June 23) I had same kind explosive bloody episode which led me to surgery to begin with and it happened as I walked into doctor building. I was in tears / doc is nice and said that was good time to do rectal exam since all was fresh and he could see what was going on. I'm not kidding- I cried like a baby on the table...digital exam was bad enough but then he went ahead and did some snake like tool to look around too. I was in so much pain I wanted to punch him. Now I'm back to having urge 10-12 times a day and although all is soft and normal looking, it BURNS and I cannot function this way. Preparation H and lidocaine burn when I put it on too. I'm 45 and in decent shape so I'm very frustrated and it makes it hard to go to work or go do anything fun. :(

I am on day 7 post op. I had mine lanced years ago and I should have done it again. I can't pee on my own. I am at home with a Foley catheter today marks my 3rd BM and I passed it with out screaming much. At least I am seeing a difference. I would say this is a barbaric way to"fix" something. There has to eew better way

I'm 5 weeks into the surgery. Had 4 large one removed. Still experiencing the burning after each BM along with the soft stool issue you noted. Close in age (I'm 41). I had gotten better than day 1 for sure so hopeful for you that you'll find improvement soon. Tracking the dates you noted seems to indicate you are about 6 or 7 weeks in. Good luck to you and let's hope for a full recovery.

Sufferer in solidarity indeed. Was able to get in a run myself at week 4 but I've been taking it easy since then as I seem to be having some moderate stomach issues that I fear induces BM. At approaching week 6 and hoping another 2 weeks will get me to the finish line. Fingers crossed and good luck to you.

Thanks for all the messages. I am now on my 10th day and feeling a bit better. I too had a painful BM on the 4th day with all the laxatives finally working. I didn't sleep the whole night before. I would get up every hour only to poop just a little. That morning I was able to finally empty myself. Now I'm wondering if my BM will ever be the normal ones I had before the surgery. They are thin and I never feel completely evacuated. I went back to the doctor and have skin tags where my externals once were. These might need to be removed. Does anyone have these problems? Does it get better?

Just reading these and starting to put my mind at ease. This is day 6 post operation. very Slight improvement with pain, but constantly needing the toilet , when I go, I dont feel I can emptym myself. I only urinate when in the bath. Wondering when I'll feel 'normal' again. Not sleeping great and dreadful every bowel movement. :-(

I am on day 11 of my road to recovery from surgery (Scalpel Hemorrhoidectomy and stapled hemorrhoidoxepy). Wow, went through some pretty dark days but I am starting to feel normal again. I am stopping my steady course of painkillers today (I went through about 70 Percocet and a seemingly unhealthy amount of Ibuprofen). I am just starting to realize as I read through these posts, that I was lucky and finally made the realization that if i just prepare for the BM by making sure my stool is soft (fiber, colace, prunes and plenty of water), the pain is manageable (pain killers on a schedule). If you do not go into the bathroom with that attitude, you WILL ABSOLUTELY have complications (just like many on this board). I have also begun to better understand the bodies natural defecation reflex - once it starts your body will take over (no need to strain). I guess it took this very invasive, back to basics (and humbling) surgery for me to feel and recognize this again. It is probably because over the years I "forgot" to let my body do its job - this is why many of us got the Hemms in the first place. If your body tells you that you need to have a BM - listen, cause it is going to happen no matter what. The reason I got anal spasms was because my body got tired from trying to prevent a BM (that's right, I was so scared of the BM that I constipated myself). I know I am sounding Zen right now - but that is really what it is about. Give your BM that initial push and the body's autonomic defecation reflex will take it from there. I know it is difficult to imagine right now but your pain will subside if you let it. I firmly believe that a majority of the complications being experienced here (constant pain from pressure, mega constipation) are people not letting their bodies work because of fear of the pain. Good luck all - there is light at the end of the tunnel.
