I was hoping to be one of the lucky few who seemed to come out of this with little pain. I didn't think it was so bad until 5 days in, despite having eaten prunes, taken a stool softener, MOM, and glycerin suppositories, I couldn't seem to push to go. I normally go every day, so I was feeling bloated and desperate. When it did come, with the help of half an enema, I was sooo relieved for about 5 seconds until I realised everything seemed to be swollen up there (not to mention the horror of the amount that came out) and had terrible colic for about 8 hours afterwards. Soo disappointed in self ... thought I was a trooper. As for the last person's piece of advice, I think your right.. you just have to be zen about it and let nature take its course. Good luck to all, it sounds like for most of us, it does get better after about say, two weeks?

Had my hemorroidectomy on 10th sept 2015 can honestly say after all the ailments of broken bones and other ops I have had I would say this one hurt more after than all of them put together! If I could have died in the 3 -4 days after I gladly would have! I am on day 5 and finally have the pain managed now I am yet to have a bm. I am scared and think my body is telling it is ready to go but the swelling tells me there is no way it's getting out! Even breaking wind is painful and sounds like it's trying to force its way through eye of needle and feels like it's ripping through! Still very swollen below and read how most of you where on stool softners before the op! Wish someone had told me about that! On them now and drinking more water than I have ever( just washing through me) I know once I have gone for a bm I will feel there is a light at the end of the tunnel pardon the pun! How long should it be before I should worry if I still haven't gone for bm

I was going to get surgery 4 large internals but after reading here how much pain it was I told the doctor I want to see if losing some weight would help it's been about 6 months I lost 30 lbs so far it has helped. I don't know why maybe less fluid buildup but I feel much better I'm going to continue to lose weight goal is 70 lb loss I hope to hit next year. Thanks for posting your story's here I'm sure glad I didn't go for the surgery I think I can manage this without it.

Good for you, I'm glad that option is working for you! I would say this would be the last resort anyone should take and wish my doctors had stress that! I'm on day 7 and have managed the smallest ever BM and am laid here a 41 yr old man wanting to cry but don't think that will relieve the pain! Good luck with the weight loss! Wish that could have been my answer but at 6ft 1 and 13 1/2 stone I have nothing to lose

Today is my 19th days post surgery, so close to 3 weeks, although it's better than the first 10 days (excruciating pain), I am still finding myself in pain after BM. The most annoying thing is I would go as many as 6 times a day...its exhausting! I never feel I am done, yet too painful to push or strain. Seriously, when can I feel like a normal human being again? Feels like life totally sucks right now.

Off to doctors hoping there is something he can give me to relax muscles in my bum as after just a marble size amount in a BM my backside as closed up smaller than a piccolo and the pain and burning is telling me no more exports today! Surely they can prescribe something! I know I have a low pain threshold which doesn't help but if I can't go I'm sure that's going to cause more issues any suggestions out there?

Yikes! This has happenened to me before! The worst pain ever feeling you can't go and you know I hit my lowest point when I did eventually go after feeling constipated all day but I poop standing up in shower...disgusting yes! I'm not sure what the doc can prescribed you but whatever you take can cause you constipation so drink heaps of water.

Just had a hemorrhoidectomy five days ago. Just wanted to share a little tip about BMs. The problem with your first several BMs is that your rectum can't relax enough to allow 1) the urge to come and 2) the stool to pass.

So here's a trick I learned:

Place a cloth on the tips of your finger ( If you're in a tub, you can use a warm wash cloth or if you're on the potty use some tucks pads).

GENTLY massage or press against the rectum area (as close as you can without harming incisions). Slowly epeat every four seconds or so until you feel your rectum muscles relax. This tricks your body into thinking it's having a bowel movement and actually will cause your bowels to move and you'll feel the urge. Then just wait and breathe. It will all slide out easy I promise!

Worked every time for me. Also after delivering two children. For the first few days, try getting in a warm bath first to get your rectum to relax. Then transfer your relaxed self over to the potty.

May the force be with you all!

It's all worth it.

Will give it a go lol still no movement after 4 sachets of movicol which is what they have given me at the doctors today! They say I can take up to 8! Gave me some instillagel too which supposed to numb the area! Fat lot of good that's done! The co-codamol for the pain, well I'll try and stay off that has it can cause constipation! I think it was the morphine that put me like this in the first place

Well the doctor was talking like the surgery was no big deal she said she would put local pain killers in the anus and I would be fine after 2 weeks of recovery. My father had the surgery when he was alive he had a terrible time afterwards he told me to never have this surgery it was the worst pain he ever experienced. I think I can manage this they bleed once in awhile but only if I let my self get constipated.

Keep a good diet and drink plenty of water will help, it's one think I've not done much of is drink fluids but will be in the future! Day 7 after op and I've just been! It looked like i passed one of the doctors fingers he must have left in! (Too much detail?) nearly passed out and sounded like a distressed wookie for the last hour! It's a start of a rocky road so taking more movicol so hopefully more improvements chin chin!

Days 7 & 8 seem to be the turning point! Day 7 was the day my muscles allowed a BM worthy of a celebration but will tell you I fell like I was literally on fire down there! Untouchable to wipe never mind wash after! So have a steaming hot bath already on the go! As bad as it sounds squatting as low as you can go was the only way to make it flow! Spent most of the Day feeling sorry for myself vowing never to eat solids again! Day 8 today while still taking stiol softners and plenty of water went pretty easy but the fire was still there but instead of a 12 on the pain factor I would say a 9 so hoping day 10 will be even better! If you've had it done and not being convinced out of it live day by day to recovery it's hard but will get better! My hearts out to you if your pre BM day!

Day 9 after op and other than BM time I feel the pain is relatively manageable! Post BM is the worst nig the actual passing but the burning and soreness which can last from 3-6 hours after! So sore to wipe! Hot water bottles worked at first but not anymore hoping a ice pack might be the answer before bed just to get to sleep! Thinking about upping my anti-inflammatory drugs as two tablets just don't touch it!

Day 13 pain is manageable, BM still painful but recovery after is quicker! The burning is still there but soothes off quicker now I use wet wipes! For the open wounds in the area some seem to have healed others look like they have a Cold do a trip back to the doctors for some antibiotics I think! Don't think they will ever heal!
