Surgery scheduled. I could probably, maybe live the rest of my life without it, but at what cost? Managing the hems flare-ups, burning and the regular popping out of those veins is getting very tedious. That's no way to live, so I'm willing to take on the challenge and work through the surgery after care.

At the same time, I have pelvic floor drop and disfunction. Pressure, unable to sit or stand comfortably, burning on urination...lots of symptoms from that. I'm using pelvic floor PT and pelvic floor yoga to learn how to relax. All this pain and discomfort may be helpful preparation for the time period right after the hems surgery.

My greatest fear from hems surgery is potential of urinary retention. I hope the nurses will pay attention to fluids and bladder, as I've read there is potential for permanent bladder dysfunction if not attended to after surgery. Is there any way I can tell my bladder is filling by the touch?

Thank you all for your contributions and posts!

I am currently on day 5 of my recovery. I FINALLY had a bowel movement. Men if you ever wonder what child birth feel like passing stool after this surgery is pretty damn close. I had to use an enema because I wad worried I'd cause more problems if I was pushing and straining. After pushing out two fist size matters I dragged my sobbing self into the warm bath I had waiting for me. This is a painful surgery amd please dont rush it.

I had to have two cathaders put in because I was unable to pee. The doctors told me that because of the swelling that its not uncommon to feel like you need to pee so often. It almost felt like the urge to pee when you have a UTI. I was told anti-imflamatories and lots of liquids. I cant not push the liquids enough

This is exactly why I'm holding out on getting this surgery I found after weight loss I'm having far less issues with the hemorrhoids now. When I had a consult the doctor made it sound like the pain was not that bad. I'm sure glad I didn't get the surgery.

Hi, I'm a 44 yr old female and had a haemorroidectomy Friday 23 October, 2015. I didn't feel much pain after but omgod, they let me leave the hospital without a bowel motion and Sunday had my first one. So excruitiating that I passed out, as my body spasmed especially my buttocks and legs that felt wobbly and partially paralysed from during and after. I started sweating all over, felt sick, went white as a ghost my husband said and the only thing that felt relief after he was able to walk me to the bathroom was a hot salt bath. God that felt good. Then I went back to bed and 2 hours later it happened again. It's now Monday, and I've had another bm but not as painful but still very high. Had another bath. I want this over with, taking everything they gave, Celebrex anti inflammatory, lactulose, fibregel, metronide antibiotic which makes me feel sick, and I took myself off tramadol which I think constipated me. Just doing Panadol 4 hourly. I've had 1 c section and 2 naturals and give me csection anyday rather than having to sort this from my pushing births. Hope it starts easing off as I have 3 kids to look after. Thank god hubby's around.

Hi Sassy, I am day 24 post surgery and am also going 5 - 8 times per day. Are you still experiencing the same issue 3 months later? If so, did you do anything specific to resolve this issue or did it just resolve itself over time? Overall, how are you feeling? Is there any leakage, do you have any skin tags or new hemorrhoids?

I'm on day ten post op. I am still in a fair bit of pain with every bm. This last one was very dark, so I know I still have some bleeding internally. On the third bm on about day 5 I actually popped a stitch and was in the worst pain for several hours after. But after that bm the pain went down significantly for the bm's. They still hurt like crazy, but recovery time isn't as long anymore.

I will say, though, I am just a man, but it felt like I was giving childbirth that first bm. I have bite marks in my leather belt and cried like a child afterwards. I've never experienced so much pain in my life. The next closest thing I can relate it to was dengue fever that I had almost twenty years earlier.

The major suggestion I would give to anyone reading these posts, is to get on a high fiber diet and stool softeners at least one week before your scheduled surgery date. I don't believe I would have had as much pain as I did if my stool was softer at that first bm.

I am also 3.5 weeks out and I am experiencing similar bowel movements throughout the day. I've reduced my colace intake from two capsules twice a day to once a day. I'm not sure what will correct this issue but I am hoping someone reading this forum who has experienced the same issue can offer some advice.

I, also, am recovering from a hemorrhoidectomy. It has been 11 days now. At first the sitz baths were soothing, but then it got so it hurt to sit in the water. It, also hurts to sit on the toilet, even to urinate. My BM is liquid and constantly seeps out of me. After a while it feels like there is a brick in my bottom that won't come out. It is the most painful thing I have ever experienced. Yesterday, when the pain got so intense, i stripped my clothes off and got in the shower and let the hot water beat down on my bottom. It relieved the pain, but I couldn't pass the BM. On the post-op instruction sheet, It seems as though they glossed over the part about how long it takes to recuperate from this surgery. I am glad to hear there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi people.. I'm glad you're all feeling better than before...i had my op on 30/12/15. The hem started in 2008 but had no money for the op as it's very expensive in my country but thanks to God I've been able to save some money for the op. And as for the PAIN? omg..I have never gone through such an experience ever in my life... Anyways these things are helping with pain... Drink plenty fluids, exercise by walking and small stretching, reduce pain killers if they make you constipate, squatting to BM is your bf now, eat fruits at least four servings a day, stop worrying too much - will get you constipated, rest as much as you can, more fiber in food is good but only if you drink plenty water or you will get constipated....anyways I'm in week 5 and stool is very thin as it makes me push a bit harder..it feels like something is blocking a portion of the passage..please is this normal? Will the door open a bit wider later with time? Thanks for your help
