I suffered too for MONTHS. My hygenist told me to try B-12 Injections. I go twice monthly for these shots. Have NO MORE problems with burning tongue. All of you should try this. PLEASE TRY IT or at least get your B-12 level checked with a blood test. The range is normally from 200 to 1100. Mine was 236, so it was apparent that I was VERY LOW on B-12 Now my levels are in the 900's just before it is time to get another shot. PLEASE TRY THIS......

I have had the BMS systems as all of you have written about for about 4 months. I first thought it was the multi vitamin I was taking so I stopped that. I gave it some time but it didn't get any better. Around the same time I started taking Omeprazole Dr 20. This is for reflux. My mouth has gotten worse. I will stop taking this in the morning. That is when I was directed to take this med. in the morning. Hopefully this problem with BMS will stop. THis problem is a side effect from this drug.

I've read through a number of these posts and finally have to share my advice. I have had BMS for about 4 years. After seeing literally every type of practicioner I could think of locally, I went to Mayo Clinic where I received some excellent advice. The best tip was to use a rinse of water with a few drops of Tabasco sauce, rinse for a bit then spit it out. It sounds crazy, but it really works! I get relief that lasts for quite a while. There is science behind it (read up on the Gate Control Theory of Pain) and it is a totally benign treatment! I also take some medication, 200 mg gabapentin, but only once a day in that late afternoon time when things typically do get worse. I sometimes use clonazepam, but also as a siwsh and spit. I was taking more gabapentin, but have dcreased the dosage over time. A unique symptom for me is that sugar is a huge irritant, so I avoid it. If I do eat sugar, a quick tabasco swish mitigates the effect. Hope this helps.

I started having all the above symptoms almost immediately following a major surgical procedure. I too almost went out of my mind and went to several different doctors and tried a lot of the remedies mentioned here with very little relief. No one I saw was able to give me any useful answers. This went on for almost 10 years and finally figured out on my own that it was caused by some foods that I was eating. Turns out that my severe burning lips, tongue and throat went completely away after I cut out gluten and lactose from my diet. Although these were the main culprits I eventually discovered that cinnamon and added preservatives were also causing the same symptoms. I know for sure for me that this BMS was caused by food allergies because any time I have anything like a small piece of cheese or a glass of wine (which contains sulfites) the burning comes back immediately. I believe that my body was put through a lot of trauma from the surgery and in turn this caused all these allergies. I am now looking back at this sight because I am having symptoms after taking a new medication so I think this might be an allergic reaction as well. I hope this information might be able to help by possibly getting you to look at the cause because it does not look like that there is a medication that works.

Hi everyone,
I'm a 56 y.o. female who has been dealing w/ BMS for about 6 months.
I did see towards the end of the posts about someone saying to eliminate honey from your diet. It's not normally in my diet to begin w/ but honey is supposed to be a natural antibiotic. Has anyone tried coating your tongue w/ it? I thought I'd give it a shot, & I also have some honey hard candies I purchased from a local farm, will go back for more if they seem to work medicinally.

Could others please discuss their experiences with stellate ganglion block? This is what a pain doctor has recommended to me. I am terrified of having it done, but right now, it appears to be my only option. Thank you.

I had a stellate ganglion block on Friday and had about six hours of relief. I notice now that the Percocet seems to work better, where it used to get my pain from a 5 to a 3, now it is a 5 to a 1. Could this be the block? I sure hope so but I don't know and wondered if others had any advice or experience. Also taking cymbalta, Ativan, and ALA
