I had a burning tongue a few years ago and I suspect it was brought on by taking antibiotics. What cured it was Fluconozole for 10-14 days. Before that my dr. prescribed clotrimizol lozenges and those really helped but it was only the fluc that cured it.

I have suffered for over a year now with BMS and when I spoke to my PCP she said I think our just weird. if you have never suffered from something like this you have no idea what it is like to live with it day in and day out. I also spoke to my dentist about it and he said when someone takes a lot of meds. BMS can be related I pray every night that this would just go away. not luck so far. I will try FRANKS hot sauce and see if it helps. they only thing that has helped so far is zyrtec and I really don't want to keep taken it because my body gets immuned to certain meds and then they don't work any longer. I really hate living like this, I feel helpless.

Thank you for your suggestions! I am trying to take the natural route for my BMS, and considered taking valerian tea since I have family members who have used it for nerve issues and it has worked amazingly. They drink the tea cold since warm can cause one to feel spacey or drowsy (it helps with sleep). I have drunk it cold with honey and it has not affected me at all. When I drank it warm two times, I had the drowsy, spacey feeling. So I wanted to suggest to you that maybe you can try getting the valerian dried herb (online since it's not typically in stores) and make a cold tea out of it. Be warned that it smells bad so would need to be stored in a plastic or glass container. Once made into a tea and chilled, the smell is reduced and the taste is not unpleasant. Hope that helps!

I have had brining mouth for 15 months. I have seen multiple doctors and dentists.I have been on many different drugs. Mine burns all day at the same level. I finally tried a home remedy that gives me some temporary relief. It seems counter intuitive but it helps...not a cure but a reduction in pain for a bit of time.....4-6 drops of tabasco in 1 teaspoon of water....put in mouth and leave for 40 seconds or so...spit....It will burn for a few minutes and then calm down. Only relief I get plus sugar free Trident.

Clonazepam (klonopin) is very helpful for BMS. I was lucky enough to have my doctor believe me after going through a stressful event of having back to back cataract surgeries with the second one ending in occular herpes for 7 weeks and 3 days later the burning mouth all from Aug 2014-mid Dec 2014 when my doctor had found low B12, changed Blood pressure meds and I finally told her I wanted to be on clonazepam which she had never used for this so I sent over the information from Brigham and Women's Hospital with their treatment using the clonazepam 1 mg nightly and it keeps me from 60-80% better depending on what Generic Brand I'm on and right now not as good as my generic was discontinued so on a different one but still functioning well and never had side effects except for getting used to new generic from the fillers. Used in low dosages there the potential for abuse is quite low. I got this when I was 54 and am now 57. My treating doctor has now left and new one is not comfortable with using clonazepam but is doing it on a month-by-month basis. Columbia University should have recommended clonazepam. I also went to UCONN Health in Farmington, CT since I live in CT and they do a whole assessment for this condition and then give you a letter report recommending clonazepam. Unfortunately this letter doesn't seem to mean anything to doctors who don't what to prescribe the drug. A psych doctor will definitely give your the drug. I was not told this but I have Type 1 for sure - starts after wakening, worse as day goes on but I seem to level off at around 8 pm and almost all days I can enjoy my day even though I still have tingling in my cheeks and right side of tongue sometimes feels like somebody is biting down on it. Clonazepam has been a lifesaver. Starting dose is usually 0.5 mg a day which I did for 6 months and then went to 1 mg a day and have stayed on that dose.

Try %100 pure coconut oil. Very important to get this kind. Put about a teaspoon in your mouth, hold it there as it melts. You will experience a very pleasant, nutty flavor. Once melted, swish around for about 5 minutes, making sure to touch all areas that are sore. When done, spit out but don't rinse. Do this once a day, and in just 2 or 3 days you should have relief. I have cured thrush this way, and now use it for burning mouth. Very effective. The oil is actually a solid. You can keep it in the fridge, cupboard, wherever. I keep mine in the bathroom because I also use it I'm my skin occasionally. Good luck.

Hi June, I have had BMS for a little over a year. I got the same responses from the same people as you did. My oral specialist told me that my hormones were messed up. Initially when I went through menopause I used a cream from Helen Pensanti which worked well. I called them and they recommended a progesterone cream called Ostraderm. It eases the burning but it doesn't take it away entirely. I still have to be careful not to eat spicy and acidic foods. I did try a NOW progesterone cream product but it didn't work for me. When this first started I thought that I was going crazy. No one ever heard of it.

Male 59 years. BMS .more specific lower gums walking tingling pains started 3 years ago after dental work. Recently also started globus feeling for about 3 months. After trying all tests and rinses and taking high dose of reflux medication to no avail. Find that wearing dental guard brings much relief by just insulating teeth or position of the jaws; no more tongue thrusting.
Throwing also in the mix Alpha Lipoic Acid two times 600mg per day. Have been using Lorazepam 0.5 for years and will switch to Gabapentin and the Clonazepam instead.
Good luck to all who are suffering from this debilitating affliction .
