could it be B12 deficiency? I am going to be tested for B12 shortly even though my blood result shows I am (apparently) within "normal" range.

I've had BMS for 10 years. Doctors thought it was reflux and put me on megadoses of ranitidine (zantac) - 800 mg per day. Still had the problem. I was eventually sent to an allergist who added 10 mg. zyrtec to the Ranitidine. I have been symptom free for all these years and the only side affect to either of these drugs is that the zantac/ranitidine breaks down magnesium in my body so I cannot absorb calcium correctly. I am 55 and have early stage osteoporosis. So, I will be treating that. All in all, the 2 antihistamines keep me normal and all pain removed - entirely.

Greetings to all, I am a man of 37 years and for some years I have trouble in my mouth similar but not exactly the same as yours. In particular I feel a sensation of numbness in the front of the palate, but that only gets worse if I keep my mouth closed for a long time, as that part of the palate has become impersensibile at touch of the tongue. The feeling, however, is not burning but more like after anesthesia. Many dentists say there is no problem to my mouth. Only at times like a slight burning under the tongue.
Someone else has a similar symptom?
Thank you and best wishes to all

Alex

I am female and nearly 60, I have had this condition for a long time, (at least 14 years) as I write I am facing another day following a sleepless night. The pain on my tongue feels like someone is stabbing it with a pin cushion. Most days it starts by 10am but then again I can have some free days. I find being in a hot room, perfumes, after shave, spicy foods and atmospheres, onions, garlic - that is preparing or eating, to name but a few triggers. My mouth burns, it makes my face hot but cools my body down too low so often I am shivery cold, even on a hot day but with a raging face. I tried acupuncture for 3 years - no help. I've tried Gabebentin, Amatriptoline, and whilst at first it feels like the drugs are some use it never lasts for long. I do think this may be linked to the dentist needle hitting a nerve in the past as it is quite a skill for him to 'hook' the needle into the right position at the back of the jaw to provide anesthetic.
I will not be going to work today as I cannot face another day of ramming my tongue up to the roof of my mouth for temporary relief. By 2pm I will be exhausted more than I am now. I cannot pretend to the world that I'm OK, I have to cave in to it. Normally a good night with REM sleep will put me right for a while, but I don't even have that today. My doctor is now out of idea's and so am I. I know I'm not alone, but I so wish that someone would come up with a logical reason and sensible cure.

Hi i'm very sorry for your pain .... have you tried the alpha lipoic acid? .. The dose is at least 600 mg per day for one month.
Others recommend rinses with few drops of Tabasco and water in a teaspoon 3/4 times a day. Initially, the burning increases, but after a few minutes should desensitize.
You have my sympathy ... a greeting and a wish for a miraculous healing

Besides the 10 mg of Zertec that you take daily, what is the other antihistamine that you take? You mention 2 antihistamines in your post. Thanks for your help.

I am 51 will be 52 in August. Developed BMS overnight when my Neuro ripped me from Horizant for Restless Legs (also suffered with that for 10+ years and it's ramped up and Sinemet and Klonopin stopped working - augmentation) due to concerns with depression/anxiety ramping up. Anyhow Horizant (form of gabapentin) may have been treating BMS and I didn't know I had it after entering Menopause. Does thie Lyrica help? I had concerns about taking it due to risk of you have have history of depression, not to mention extreme weight gain many report. It's also a new treatment for Restless Legs now too. Anyhow Neuro #2 has me back on Horizant and it's helping some with RLS and sleep but I'm grinding/clenching the heck out of my teeth again (definitely side effect of Horizant for me) and BMS still a problem, although maybe somewhat better on Horizant... pick your poison... And I cannot take Zoloft in very low does which helps my depression and anxiety and sleep but exacerbates RLS. Screwed would be an understatement. Just curious about minimum dose of Lyrica? Post menopause for 2+ years
