Try a chiropractor to line your hips back up, the walking boot I had gave me lower back pain and I would have to take it easy when I felt it, fast forward, I was out of the boot for a few months, they determined I also had a stress fracture, on with the walking shoe, within a week, two discs are now slipped and that was a pain I wouldn't wish on anyone. My hips were not lined up putting the stress on the spine. Yours may be simple as some adjustments :--)

Unfortunately the 2 ruptured discs (L3/L4 and L4/L5) were more severe with the L5 causing my leg and foot to be paralyzed, causing drop foot. I did go to the chiropractor, but he agreed he would not be able to help me, after a few sessions of seeing him. The 2-1/2 lb and 2" high boot should be outlawed. My small frame couldn't handle the stress. It has been a year since my back surgery to relieve the pressure off the L5 nerve, I still have a paralyzed foot and unable to flex. Very depressing.

I was in an aircast for 8-10 weeks for a stress fracture in my left foot. I have been out of the aircast for approximately 3 weeks. The hip pain is worse than the break! I can't walk workout severe pain. Any suggestions?

I was in the Army and got a stress fracture in my heel. After inconsistent treatment and wearing a CAM boot for several months I started having HORRIBLE hip pain. After many hip x Rays, they decided to check my back. I had a bluging disk between my L4 & L5. My knee started hurting around the same time and after scans on that they told me I had a rip in my meniscus. They never admitted it, but it was OBVIOUS I got these problems from that boot. I suggest if you are already in a boot to definitely use crutches. Also see a good chiro.

I highly recommend a chiropractor, especially one who studied the Palmer Method of chiropractic care. He periodically pulls one of my legs back into position because of it shortening by itself. This was before I had to wear the cam boot for tendonitis in my right foot/ankle. I also found the hip pain from the boot came after I had to wear it from relapses of the tendinitis. It seemed more pain occurred after sitting for awhile, so the uneven gait combined with sitting too much could be the problem that shortened one leg. I had it somewhat evened up by wearing a Wellco brand army boot on the other foot, but the chiro said I would still be walking funny. So if you walked like a penguin on one foot and the other one was normal gait, then that must put the hip out of alignment on one of the legs. After he does the adjustment, he wants patients to take it easy for the rest of the day and the following day. I hope this helps.

Wow I'm having the same experience right now. I don't think my hip is quite as bad. It was constant and severe about two weeks ago. Now it's much less... I notice I haven't needed Advil for about 3-4 days now. And the pain has been off and on. I believe the other person is correct cause I work with nurses at a corporation... And my co worker/friend insisted I get a pair of high sneakers.

I am so grateful I found this post. I was thinking sacral stress fracture (even though doc ruled it out). I know the boot messed me up. I was only in it two weeks (and had a big shoe on the other foot) but 5 weeks later I am still in pain. Massage is helping a little, as is chiropractic. Boot on right foot. Left hip pain. They should include the step up with every boot. This is ridiculous!!!

I just read your post about hip pain after wearing the boot. YES, I have the same problem. I fractured my ankle in a car accident 3 months ago, a bone fragment had been chipped off of my ankle and is still floating around in there. My ortho doctor immediately put me in the fracture boot that came about halfway up my calf. I wore the boot constantly for 2 months. On a follow up, he told me I didn't have to wear the boot any longer. When I returned home and took the boot off to wear regular shoes, the pain in my left hip was unbearable. It took a month, but I am returning to the doctor today specifically to address this problem.
I'll let you know what happens.

I also ended up with bad lower back pain and hip pain from wearing boot cast...In physical therapy...2 sessions is not enough...for as long as it was bad...as long as you wore the boot...you need that if not more time to heal...don't give up

I have also been struggling for five months to regain my full ability to walk normally after being in the walking cast. something happened in it even trying to wear a tall shoe on the other foot that has caused deep problems to my balance, strength, and orientation between my two sides. I am happy at least to find some validation of how much these boots can mess you up and become a whole problem in themselves. I find PT has been amazing but I had to suggest it myself! Why is this not being recognized by podiatrists. They don't warn you at all that it can be a whole long journey ahead to recover from the boot. I am going to try the chiropractor like some of you have treid.

A Podiatrist invented the Evenup to alleviate the back/hip/knee pain associated with wearing a fracture/cam boot.

My daughter had the same problem from wearing the boot. She is a ballet dancer and couldn't lift her foot an inch off the ground without unbelievable pain! I took her into see doctors and they wanted to do all kinds of tests including surgery. We did two MRI's including them shooting die in her veins. These were high ranking doctors from well know Universities. She was scheduled for a battery of blood tests but it was a month out. I figured that was a little over board and wanted to another opinion. I started researching chiropractors and found one that does work on pregnant women. I figured she was perfect and went in for a visit. When we were finished with her visit the doc told me she will be fixed in 5 visits. I'm thinking to myself yeah right but sure enough my daughter was dancing after the 5th visit! The doctor didn't crack her back or any intense work the only thing she did was work on her psoas muscle. It was so tight it didn't allow her to move that leg. It was unbelievable especially after all those tests and everything they had planned for my daughter. It may be something else but I would have your psoas muscle checked. Good luck!
