Hello! A friend of mine used to have many problems with his teeth. He visits his dentist often but his problems occur again. Otherwise he is healthy and has no other problems with his health. He says his whole family generally has problems with teeth. He thinks it must be something wrong in their genes. He extracted his wisdom tooth few days ago and yesterday he felt few lymph swollen lymph nodes behind his ear. Can lymph nodes swell as a result of wisdom tooth extraction? I am afraid something else may be the cause.

Hello! Enlarged lymph node is the sign of active fighting of infection. They also may become painful but the pain is usually mild. I think the lymph node should not get bigger than 2 centimeters. The lymph nodes filter out harmful bacteria and viruses from the lymphatic fluid before it is returned to the blood. If the lymph nodes are too enlarged and painful your friend should visit his dentist again since that could be a sign of infection connected with the recent tooth extraction.
