I am 24 years old in good health. Two years ago I was diagnosed with mild cervical dysplasia (HPV). Since then I have been back for a yearly pap smear and my HPV still remained. When recently checking my cervix due to a pregnancy scare, I felt what after some research seems to be a polyp. Due to my cervical dysplasia should I be fearful that the polyp may be malignant? I am due for a yearly exam in July. Should I wait until then or seek medical attention immediately? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cervical polyps are benign growths of tissue of your cervix that is usually caused by some long term inflammation but also because of change in hormonal levels. And the most important thing is that they are - if the gynecologists finds it necessary - easily removed during pelvic exam. The removal is necessary when they become too large, start to hurt or bleed. So, if you have a chance to get an appointment before July and get this worry off of your shoulders - that would be great, but nothing extreme should happen even if you wait until the regular exam, unless there is already pain and discomfort. Besides, it's hard to be sure it is a polyp without a professional opinion.
