@ Bryan. . . I'm 55 yrs old, run 2-3 miles a day and am on a sculling team 2x a week. This doesn't have anything to do with MY inactivity. Get a life. . . .

Helius, I hope the vinegar works because this is very painful.

it is not reflux or indigestion because it happens when I am swallowing. severe middle chest pain

For me it appears to be an allergic response or sensitivity.  It only happens when I eat certain foods.  Try not eating whatever you ate when it happened and see if it happens again.  If I avoid chicken and turkey I don't have the problem.  Hope this helps somebody!

I have gerd. Extremely painful without my doctors script. You will be sleeping and have to sit up for minutes till pain goes away. I thought at first it was a heart attack!

Brian, you must be such fun to be around when you spout off on subjects you know nothing about. All of the symptoms described above could be GERD and exercise makes it worse. Hope you never experience this severe pain. But then again, KARMA!

When I had that really intense pain swallowing anything, it turned out to be a huge ulcer in my esophogus which required surgery to remove. All the other ulcers which were all up and down my esophogus and stomach were eliminated with antibiotics. Unfortunately the first antibiotic they tried was Bactrin and I just so happened to have a 1 in 3 million chance of having an allergic reaction called Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. Big long horrible story... but the intense pain swallowing was ulcers growing in the esophogus. I sure hope this is not your case. But for me it was so bad i was shooting down alka seltzer then hammering nutritional drinks to stay alive, because the swallowing pain was causing me to never eat. I had gone from 210 pounds down to 175 before going to the emergency room .

A patient had the stomach and bottom half of esophagus removed. After reconstructive surgery using a small intestine to hook back on itself, the patient has mucosal discharge which really makes it hard to ingest anything. What to do?
