I am not on an antibiotic. but I did have 3 steroid injections to my lower back in the past 3 months. I have had some lower GI issues in the past, (colitis attacks,) and a few isolated bouts of GERD. But in the past month I have had 3 "attacks" of intense pain in my chest, unlike any other. Went to ER thinking heart attack. That was all fine. Gave me a "gastric cocktail" containing lidocaine and the pain went away, so they said follow up with GI doc. Saw him last week and going for endoscopy in 3 days. 4 years ago during endiscopy they snipped out 4 stomach polyps. They said they were not cancerous. But now doc said maybe more grew and have progressed. Way to scare me! I've lost 18 lbs. in 2 months. The pain after 4-5 bites is too intense. Taking 40mg Prilosec but not helping. I'm a bit nervous. I've never had this kind of upper GI pain before. Hoping it's just a hernia, or a short-lived side effect to my steroid shots. I'll be 40 in a few months and have 2 young children. Just want this pain to stop!

I also have the same problem but I think I feel mine's in my heart and the food just feels like it's stuck there until I drink some water. This happens after every bite, so I'm not sure exactly what it is but I have an idea...(50%chance acid reflex, 25% chance I'm not chewing enough, and 27.6343% chance it's a sign of a coming heart attack, and a 89.949% chance it's heart burn). If any of you can tell me what is wrong with my heart please do, & also I ran cross country the same day I got this problem after I ate some food at home(had to drink water after every bite or else I'd have a burning feeling in my heart. And I ate my first veggie burger, but I got the feeling I was going to throw up (acid reflex) but I didn't. I'm hoping one of you guys might have a solution to my situation. One more thing that might have contributed to my problem would be: I had school that day too, but on that day the water became contaminated so I didn't drink the water on the water fountains until I heard someone say that they were clean, so I drank a few sips (I know it wasn't very smart! It was a moment of weakness... & thirst). Please if you think you know what it is or What medical specialist I should go to please tell me.

my 16 year old son is experiencing the same symptoms and also starting taking doxycycline about a month ago. This week he was seen several times by several doctors who started by saying he had pneumonia no cold symptoms pericarditis and now he has been taken off all antibiotics and told he has gerd He is taking tacta and zantax. it has only been one day but still no relief. Did you find that after stopping the doxycycline your gerd went away? Worried and not sure who to believe and how to proceed. He has had chest xray which one dr thought that they saw something other dr said no 2 ecgs same thing one saw something 2 said no.

My father had this problem - often during dinner he would "get something stuck" or otherwise have a symptom and be forced to lie down silently for up to an hour afterwards. In my 30s I noticed the onset of similar symptoms, not so much getting food "down the wrong pipe" but more like a heartburn-style ache that was increased 3x when swallowed food passed over it on the way to my stomach. I will not dispute to role some medications, like doxycycline, play in aggravating GERD issues, because there is no question that some do. There is also no question, however, that this problem and so many other somatic issues comes from a poor diet and lack of mindfullness. I'm serious. Besides ruthlessly changing my diet to reduce/eliminate refined sugars, fake sugars, processed filler and unhealthy fats, the greatest change I've made has been to slow down in life, to be present in each moment so that my mind and body are attentive to the act of eating. Or whatever I'm doing. Sure, I can assemble some ingredients and chew and swallow them while I watch television, or talk on the phone. That's muscle memory, autopilot. And that, coupled with my poor capacity to release stress stored in our muscle tissue, is exactly what caused my symptoms. I spent too many years reading comments like mine here and saying, "yeah ok, but that's not practical, I need a medical cure here," or "I am doing that stuff, sort of." You'll learn either way: these and other somatic symptoms (you alone know whay I'm talking about here) are signs that you are living wrong and they will disappear only if you learn to release stress and live mindfully in the present like our ancestors did for hundreds of 1,000s of years.

I wonder if a doctor ever comes to this site just to answer questions ? it would be so nice to get some of their ideas . I know they can not diagnoss but I'm sure they have seen this many of times and can give us ideas . I never thought anything about my problem with my food getting stuck in the middle of my chest and how painful it was . I had to cough so hard to vomit to dislodge the food . I suffered alone with my problem I do need to a doctor though , I didn't know their were others suffering from the same condtion . I wish none of us had ever have to go though this and it's scary when it happens. My heart goes out to the teens that are so young . This didn't happen to me till I was in my 30's it was scary enough but a young teenager it's heart breaking for both the teen and the parents. I would never want any child or teenager to ever have to go though this . I can deal with it I'm grown and I'm also a parent . I so thankful to God it's me that suffers with it and not any of my children. God Bless you young teenagers and your parents my heart goes out to you both .

I have also had this problem off and on for what seems like forever now. I actually just had it happen to me now and I also expericened vomiting. The advice I can give is just thoroughly chew your food and try not to eat too fast. If you experience vomiting as I did then you have two choices: vomit or have it go down into your stomach.

I know this post was over a year ago but I just read it. I prayed your son would be healed. I claimed healing for him according to God's word that states Through Jesus' stripes you were healed.

I have had this problem for years, if I drink water it gets stuck in my chest and hurts and I need to throw up the water to get the pain to go away, but I found out something on my own, after trying to get the food to go down
after 4 hrs, I tried something I took a Alka Seltzer pack and took one tablet from the pack with the hottest I could
stand the water and within 30 sec's the food went down.
