Im 20 year old female. I've been having the same pains below my left breast for as long as I can remember. Its never been very bad, on a pain scale of 1-10 Id say it was about a 4, and never lasted longer the 30 seconds to 1 min.
I almost forgot about them, havent had them in a year, but today it reminded me, ever so kindly. Only this time it was a 9 on the pain scale. Went down on my knees, short breaths, crying, the whole shabang. And it lasted about 30 mins this time, but I can still feel it if I breath to deeply. Also sent pain out into my back left shoulder and the left side of my neck this time. Left side of me is completely sore now.
Im guessing many factors could play a part in mine. Im always stressed out. I was born with a heart murmur (but it has never bothered me before), recently found out I have Scoliosis and a bludging disk.
I may end up going to see a doctor about this if the pain stays this bad. Its just nice to know there are others of you out there who feel my pain. :P

I am 35 years old and having the same problems for about 2 weeks now, I had this a few months ago and my doctor just told me it was a pulled muscle and gave me some steroid meds and it went away. This time its allot worse, the pain is under my left breast bone above my ribs the pain have moved back to my neck and back rib cage one day and just keeps moving to different parts of my bod, I cant ever wear a bra right now. My ears are crackling all the time from sinus and my doctor told me I have Costochondritis and gave me a shot of a Steroid to help with the pain yesturday- It hasn't helped yet. My problem now is when I eat or drink I feel the pain more intense by my heart. What is wrong with all of us, can someone just give us an answer.

Costochondritis - Inflammation of the breastbone tissue. It occurs mainly in young women and can spontaneously go away on its own accord. The only way of treatment is anti-inflammatories.

I have had this for about 5 years now and have also had steroid injections in my chest to help reduce the pain which has helped. The pain can get so bad that apparently can be equivilant to a heart attack.

See your doctor and ask for anti-inflammatories. I am also prescribed Amitriptyline for controlling the pain when it comes. Hope you all find this useful if you havent already found something.

I'm a 20 yr old male and I've been dealing with this problem since I was about 14. Numerous doctors said my heart's healthy, ECGs all said my heart and blood were healthy, X-rays show up normal, so I dunno what it is. I know I had a tough teenage life and it started when I first started off getting depressed. When I would get too happy or too sad it would start up. I'm passed all that now, but then the left side of my chest started getting swollen and firm with the pain. It's not like a lump, more like one side got ripped over exercise while the other side remained normal, or at least that's how it looks and feels. I stopped exercising and the pain went away but then a weight took it's place. I started exercising again and the weight went away but everytime I do CERTAIN exercises that are cardio related like jumping jacks, the pain comes back after a while, while doing it. My chest gets firm as well, only the left side. I just came back from working out, I had to stop this time as well cuz I couldn't fight the pain any longer. I'm really worried cuz I drink at least 12 glasses of water a day, take vitamins and work out regularly. Doctors have told me over and over again that i'm healthy and fine so I don't know why this is happening to me and it scares me sometimes because no-one knows what it is but something HAS to be wrong because it's not normal. The pain is on the left. Can be on the right but rarely, and the center sometimes as well but again...rarely. Mostly the left. Since I'm kinda buff you can CLEARLY see the left side bigger than the right after I work out. Someone help me please, it's been over 6 years...

Me too, have had sharp stabbing pains generally on the LHS of my chest by the breatbone. They can be extreamly painful at times and stop you in your tracks. They also sometimes stick aorund for a while and then pain comes and goes when breathing.

One thing I have noticed is that on most occasions it is after eating food or drinking fizzy drink. I did have an endoscopy and they found a hietus hernie which can be related to reflux. At the moment, the suggestion is that it is reflux of acid that is getting into the pipes and causing a sudden pain.

I always used to think it is going to be a heart attack everytime I get it, which did send me into a state of stress which just made things worse. If you have ever suffered from stress you will no how bad that is.

What I can say is that I have had this pain for over two years - so if it were a heart attack I think I would be on my back by now!? .... but it still does not conclusively answer what the problem is. The doctors have said that it can be more painful than a heart attack, and the fact that I have high colestrol and previously high blood pressure does always make me think twice.

My advice, loose some weight, try to do some moderate exercise and try to cut back (Not cut out) those fatty foods.

Good Luck

Me too, the problem started before two years when I was working in my master dissertation. I wonder if this problem happened because I was drinking a lot of coffee and stimulation drinks at that time.

i am 16 years old and i am a male. i have been sick with a cough and recently today i found that my left breast rib sticks out a little bit from my chest. i went to a doctor check up on my sickness (not my rib) "because i didn't know about it at that time" and they said that im down for 10-14 days on some aerial infection in my lungs "i think" i don't know what it was called or know any thing about it. and the worst thing about the check up yesterday was that i was checked for the flew (which means a LONG Q-tip gets shoved way WAY up my nose) lol it tickled so bad.

I had an ultrasound as well after several bouts of pain and agony which led to the hospital many times...the last time because the hosp suspected a appendix they gave me a catscan...came back negative for appendicitis but positive for GALLSTONES!!! In fact so bad I have to have my gallbladder completely removed!! Ultrasound does not always diagnose or detect gallstones and I too also have this under the left breast pain which is why I was looking up this article!

I have the same pain...it was severe enough that I could barely use my left arm.  Then the pain moved to the right side, but seems to be decreasing some now after taking meds for acid reflux and for irritable bowel syndrome.  My doctor feels that there is an underlying issue, and has ordered a colonoscopy.

Hello everyone I am male 26 y.o and a Nurse from the Philippines.I have also encountered thesame pain too on my left ribs and sometimes few cm. above my breast, a sharp sudden pain that would last for 10 sec. or more. I Have undergone all laboratory test related to my heart and all have the same results it's negative. I ask my massage therapist about it and he said that is an air trapped on your muscle and would also sometimes create muscle twitching on affected area, which is true on my case. So after he massage therapy actually full body. The horrible pain didn't return for sometime now. Just avoid too much stress and exposing to cold weather especially at night he said. I hope this would help.

Before trying to go a therapist make sure they are professional on what they are doing because were talking our own body and health here. Cheers :-D
