A computer glitch that occurred within "e-Formulary" IT system that automatically lists the most popular drugs when doctors fill out prescriptions turned the famous Viagra into an anti-smoking drug.
This was the last thing the Scottish smokers expected to get in order to kick their smoking habit.
Luckily, the mistake was discovered and the NHS Greater Glasgow has sent out emails to about 900 GPs about the problem. The NHS stated that the patient care hasn’t been impaired since the prescriptions are being double-checked by both doctors and the pharmacists.
There could have been a problem if both a prescription doctor and a pharmacist failed to spot the mistake and give the patient impotency drug Viagra instead of anti-smoking drug Zyban.
However, no such cases have been reported yet.
