The thing is that vocal cord can be affected by many things but in most cases you will have problems if you used is too much and if you use it too loud. On the other hand you can have congestion of vocal cord if you have infection in your throat and if you have problems with your tonsils. The best thing to do is to take some antibiotics if you have infection. But if you just need to rest your vocal cord to get your normal voice back you could also try to use some natural remedies. I know that people often use combination of honey and lemon with warm water so you can try this as well.
