Cranberry juice is acidic, too, yet others are also advising it and others are trying it. I drank it for a year and retained the infection with house on fire burning. Vinegar might help, I'll try anything. I now have chronic kidney disease stage 3, dialysis can start at 4. UTIs can be serious, I get them almost monthly and urologists don't know why. I've tried everything I can think of but they keep returning. My next checkup is for bladder cancer, my brother was just diagnosed with it. Drink fluids, take vitamin C, B6, 12, & I just read about B17 that's supposed to help infections (?). I've never heard of it before but I'm going to research it further. Good luck to all!

i can help possibly. ive had this for a couple years but in the past few weeks and months have started healing it. i was able to determine exactly which foods were causing it for me. any added salt, even if its considered a more healthy salt, makes it worse. this makes sense because the more salt you eat the more water you need to balance it which equals more urination. this also involves the kidney as i think its been proven that salt damages kidneys and if you think about it it makes sense; added work for the kidney over time will exhaust it, and as we are animals that have evolved from primates we never originally ate foods with added salt. it cant be good. i had to stop cooking with it and i dont add any to the food i eat now. i prepare all of the food i eat so i know everything thats in it. added oil makes it worse too. i was consuming larger than average amounts of oil with my meals. enjoying food without any oil or salt is very difficult but if you got to the point i did you would understand. i had to heal myself, it was unbearable. sweeteners make it worse as well. i was consuming large amounts of maple syrup which doesnt agree with my urination system. i have also noticed this with other sweeteners such as cane sugar. fruits are ok. which leads me to fruits and vegetables and animal products are the only foods that give me relief and allow me to heal. along with the salt, oil, and sugar, whole wheat has been horrible. whole wheat, oats, corn, beans, nuts, seeds, lentils, and similar just do not agree with my insides. and i have the "experience" as having been vegan for a year and then for a longer time seriously limiting animal products my diet was basically oily, salty grain and sugar. by the way those foods i listed above starting with whole wheat even though they are all called different things they are all botanically seeds, and seeds have something called phytic acid. i have researched this a lot. supposedly it leaches minerals from your body to digest it. surprisingly white flour is gentler on my system. this is because the more refined a grain is, the more the outer bran layer is removed, and the more phytic acid is removed as the acid is contained in the outer layers. although white flour has been better it still isn't optimal and doesn't sit as well with me as plain fruits, vegs, and animal foods. i want these words to help you if you get to the point where you cant take it anymore. it is very difficult to give up such tasty foods, it is so so hard to eat just fruits vegetables and fish but it has healed me. i also agree with those who said masturbation helps relieve it for a time, but at times it seemed to barely do this and it doesn't heal the root of the problem which is what you are eating and the nutrients or lack of you're supplying your system with.

to make this simple:
avoid added salt (all foods have sodium naturally in them, im saying dont add any additional salt), oil, sugar (except fruit sugar), whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds, lentils, oats

foods that are ok: fruits, vegetables, root vegs (potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc.), mushrooms, animal products (fish, shellfish for instance), white flour (is possibly ok, not as bad as the avoid foods for me, but it isnt as gentle on my system as the rest of the ok foods)

i assume to some the concept of not eating out (unless you can 100percent guarantee whats in it) and preparing their own food is impossible, but then you will continue to suffer unless your specific condition isn't caused by what it has been for me, which is doubtful. please give this a try if you are suffering, you have nothing to lose.

i have to seriously change my advice. i posted the 2 posts (the one by itshealing and the one right after) before the last one by guest. i had written that white flour doesn't seem to cause symptoms as much as some other foods. i ended up discovering that for me at least, i was completely wrong about that. for the past couple weeks i had only been eating fruits, vegetables, and potatoes and this definitely was easier on my urination system and things were going smoothly. things weren't perfect as in my situation things had been seriously problematic before the whole fruits, vegs, and potato diet if you remember, my point is i had been coming from a really bad place and had a lot of healing to do so while it wasn't perfect things were a lot easier to deal with and seemed to be healing. using the bathroom to urinate was a much nicer process, i wasn't ending feeling like there was more left or that i couldn't get it all out and overall things just felt a lot better down there. then yesterday after a bad day i decided to make flatbread which is just white flour and water and it was a very bad night with my urination system. i didn't even use salt or oil and it was still this bad. i now completely know for a fact that flour makes it worse down there for me. the way i can describe it is it feels very compact and tight in my lower left quadrant area. i just wanted to pass this on because if anyone was taking the advice of my previous post about white flour being semi-ok id hate for you to take that advice and be in the same pain i was last night. while i dont want to change my stance on oil and sait being the worst contributors im now wondering if they aren't so so bad it's just that when you combine them with flour as i had been doing for years it becomes worse. my stance is not changing on whole wheat and other seed-type foods as ive had enough experience with that to know they cause problems. maybe for other people the foods that cause problems for them are different and maybe because for a few years i was eating those foods heavily they're worse for me but i just can't deal with flour or things like lentils, oats, whole grains, etc. i am going to do some more experimenting and will let you know what i find. hope you all continue to get better "down there"

Do not wait too long to see a doctor If you think you have a UTI. I waited 2 weeks because my doctor was out of town. Ended up in the ER. The spasms and burning are unbearable. I'm on day 2 and still in pain. Go immediately do not wait.

Welcome to the Interstitial Cystitis Club. ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** posting web addresses is not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use has the most accurate info. For the others posting,I can’t say this is the same issue you all have but it’s what I have and you all describe. IC is diagnosed when all other reasons (UTI, bladder ulcers, etc) are ruled out. Simple explanation is a microscopic defect in the lining of the bladder. The lining includes the urethra. Acidic foods cause irritation and manifests as urgency and frequency to pee. Can also feel like a slight burn. There’s no cure but diet change helps a lot. Stay away from the acidic foods (which is basically almost everything) and put a lot of alkalines in your diet along with water. You will notice your symptoms improve. From there, do an elimination diet and find your individual triggers. There are a couple women on YouTube that have documented their IC journey and it was very helpful for me. They claim for them, they got it to completely go away! Awesome for them! It’s different for everyone. I’m not quit there but I’m close. More good days than bad days. Google cautiously because there’s a lot of miss info out there.

hi i am the person who posted the 3 replies under itshealing. i am finding even fruits and vegetables are irritating for me but in a different way than the other foods i mentioned. i might be hyper sensitive/aware of the area down there because of possibly my previous horrid eating habits but whatever all of this means i am finding the only food that seems to soothe me is meat. as i dont eat red meat im only eating freshwater fish since i was worried fish from oceans might have more sodium and be irritating for me. i buy fish at either ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** posting of web addresses is not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use (which you have to call in to order) in case anyone wants to know where to get freshwater fish.

i prefer not to eat animal foods but have become so darn hyper aware of whatever area "down there" is bothering me that i have come to accept that if thats what it takes to feel a bit better i will do it.

but anyway i just wanted to pass on that my previous advice about fruits and vegs being ok to eat seems to be not ringing true for me.
