I had a thyroid lobectomy about 8 years ago and since then I have developed nodules on the other thyroid gland. I started out with one and am now up to three with a nodule on the stump from the other lobe. Over the past several months I have been coughing at night. It only happens when I lay down. It feels like there is something in my throat on the side the thyroid was removed from. At first I thought it was just a dry throat so I drank lots of water. It did not help. I do not have allergies and it is not sinus dripage. I wake up in the middle of the night having to cough and it goes on for about 15 minutes. Just had another ultrasound done and the nodules have not grown any and I even had an upper Gi done which showed nothing. The ultrasound tech suggested in might be scar tissue. Is this possible and if so what should I do?
