I'm hospitalized, and seeking information on Dilaudid because of the impact it's had on my brain surgery procedure.

To those who helpfully contributed information on Dilaudid here... you've done me a great service, and I appreciate your knowledge.

The quoted m***n above who contributed less than nothing... fine some stairs to fall down backwards, then find a hobby that excludes both keyboards, and conversations with others.

I have arthritis as well. It's very hard to find a medicine that works. Have you talked to your doctor about fetynal patches?

I had back surgery a while back and was on Opana 10mg. I am an addict but a recovering addict. Opana releived my pain. The only side effect I can recall was the inability to..um..ya no...get the big "O". And I had no real trouble stpping it either. hope that helps.

I just had a total hip replacement and the surgeon started me on Narco which is some kind of pain killer i have never heard of. I still had unbearable pain the next day so surgeon switched me to Dilaudid. Instant relief! Also had a great sense of euphoria which i needed because the excruciating pain was wearing me down emotionally

I have had damage done to my L4 and L5 which will be gone sooner than later which means surgery, scary. I have been on morphine sulfate 60mg 3x times a day and oxycodone 30mg 4x day for the break through pain now for 2 years. I did have the dilaudid 5 years ago with a gallbladder removel. So many pills a day to remember and the soothing effects get shorter each month. What would anyone suggest to take so that that a 7 pill a day program could go to a 1 or 2 pill a day for the pain at or about the same cost

You would have to take 100 mg of morphine to get the same results as 5mg of dilaudid. Also, dilaudid works better.

I am 24 year old male who had a servere migraine and back pain so I went to the ER. They did ct scan and a spinal tap, and when the spinal fluid test came back they told me I had menigitous. So they gave me morphine to help with my headache that made my head feel like it was going physically burst. It worked for about 5-10 minutes and then the pain fully returned. I let them know and they gave me dilauded and the pain was gone for about 5 hours. I have been omitted and using that & benidrill gor the itchy feeling. I'm guessing you think I'm in denile and that I'm an addict as well? Do not tell a man that he is not in pain cause you will never feel what they feel. That is the first step to recovery from making yourself look like a complete ass!

Dilaudid is VERY addictive and can and will cause death such as respiratory failure when mixed with benzos or alcohol.  Just ask Doctor Daniel Baldi how that worked out for him and the over 50 people he killed.

Lucky you! Evidently you do not have a painful disease. Again lucky you! Because you seem to know everything, I am sure you have heard of karma. You should not judge! My rheumatoid arthritis is so severe that I had both hips replaced 3 years ago at the age of 36! Now I have surgery scheduled to replace my right shoulder. After that recovery I also have to do the left one. Next my knees will be replaced. I would love to be healthy and not need medications. Think about this and remember KARMA!! One more thing, when pain meds are taken properly for a legitimate reason it is drug dependency not addiction.

for me this is working well, went from 6 30mg roxicodone, 4 10/325 percs, 2 2mg xanax to 4 8mg dilaudid 3 10/325 percs and 1 2mg xanax and doing well thus far, the key is try to drop a pill or 2 every 2 or 3 days and it help to keep the tollerance down..... good luck.....pain is good for us as long as you can function

Pain meds are most certainly designed and titrated to eliminate pain, if at all possible. Partial relief is no help psychologically and in reducing the mental health destruction that being in pain consistently will cause. If your Pain Management Doc believes otherwise, you need a new Dr.

You have obviously never suffered with severe and chronic pain. All I can say to you is wait till you get to walk a mile in someone else's shoes. Judge not lest ye be judged.
God bless you

YOU HAVE OBVIOUSLY NEVER HAD PAIN IN ANY REAL SENSE. it is physiologically impossible to become addicted to even heroin if you are taking it specifically for pain, and not doing excessive amounts just to get euphoria. i was on Dilaudid and methadone for over4 yrs. quite a bit, every day and after i had a minor surgery, i no longer needed the meds, so i just stopped. no withdrawals, nothing bad, since i was not using JUST recreationally. read up on medicine before speaking, hun

Guest, those are horrible things to say to people that are in excruciating pain, like myself. I don't deny that I am addicted to pain meds because I've been taking them as prescribed for 3 years. My doctor took me off of them because she thought I was being dishonest with her, which is the furthest thing from the truth. People like you need to understand what's it's like to be in horrible pain everyday of your life, and then you wouldn't be so quick to judge. Just because we take pain meds, doesn't mean we are going to "shoot up heroin," as you say. Please be more understanding.
