Do you not understand the hopelessness, depression and those effects that chronic pain plays not only in your life but how it affects the people around you? This is complicated and to label all who try as "addicts" is just plain disgusting.
Please, take your ramblings down some other road.

Do not speak for others guest. Many of us takw our medication as prescribed for real issues Dependence is not the same as addiction. For the majority of us yes if we lost our Dr and scripts it would suck. Our quality of life would be reduced and we may need assistance with withdrawal symptoms in tge unlikely event that the prescribing physician failed to reduce dosage and appropriately ween down or off. However, responsible patients are not likely to start turning tricks under a bridge. Good luck with your sobriety and pain issues.

I have been on and off opioids of all types for over 36 years (first was morphine) after being run over by a drunk driver on my motorcycle 8-31-81. You know about our alcohol epidemic don't you see that on TV every night after they tell you about our terrible opioid problem? I was young and had never taken any opioids before. I have seen some people get better relief from morphine than Dilaudid but certainly not for me. Everyone builds a tolerance. Some call it addiction, dependence, bad habit, and only the USA calls it a disease to force insurance companies to pay for an old (alcohol based) one size fits all overpriced and almost never working solution. If a blue book and 12 step program with a life time of meetings about drug war stories and pain helps more power to you. If morphine works don't use Dilaudid. Morphine no longer helps me at all. Dilaudid did not help my wife after surgery but morphine did. I was shocked and learned everyone reacts differently. Fentanyl patches did not help me at all even though they say it is stronger than Dilaudid. I now require at least 48mg. of Dilaudid per day to get any relief. I now have a medical marijuana card that helps a little but in NY our Governor Dr. Cuomo decides how much THC and CBC are allowed and charges are about double all other States for watered down product and only half as much vape oil. I call it the war on drugs Version 2.0 since Version 1.0 was a complete failure. (V 2.0 -The war on prescription drugs). Version 1.0 started in 1937 and now we have a larger incarcerated population than any other Country. We now have prisons for profit that won't parole many people so they make more money. Not many people have taken opioids as long as me and I would rather die of an overdose than to live with chronic pain. My back was broken and I spent 9 months in a full body cast and had to learn to walk again after also having a compound fractured leg and crushed foot pinned back together. Try taking a number 2 laying down on a bedpan. Take away safe medicine for long term users will never work. Heroin and Fentanyl are now in every town in the USA. Fake Oxycodone pills are killing people in large numbers. Fentanyl is flooding our Country from China. It costs only 20% as much to produce compared to heroin yet much stronger. We have been in Afghanistan now 17 years and killed the target over 6 years ago but our military just keeps flooding our Country with Afghanistan heroin. What does Afghanistan produce other than heroin and marijuana? Remember Oliver North got caught trading huge amounts of Cocaine in return for guns used against us. Flown home in military cargo planes. Sold on every corner everyday in every town in what is left of our Country. Doctors who write prescriptions are having their licenses to practice medicine revoked. In NY medical marijuana costs at least 10x more than heroin. In the entire State we have only 4 dispensaries. Portland Oregon has 247 dispensaries and it is legal to grow your own. NY only has about 22,000 medical cards. A complete failure for Dr. Cuomo who thinks he will be President. (Ha Ha). How could any sick patient on a tiny disability check even afford one vape a month? I use one per day when I can. I have gone through hard withdrawals at least 50 times, once in a detox hospital followed by a month of re-education. The rest at home. I was told about this new miracle drug called Suboxone about 10 years ago. The first time I tried it I had to put 2, 8 mg. pills under my tongue until dissolved while being monitored by a nurse. I have a huge tolerance but was well aware that I was overdosed in a terrible way. I was not safe to drive. I knew it was garbage the first time. If I am stopping for a while I take a 8 mg. Suboxone strip and cut it into 16 doses. I take no more than 1/16 of a 8 mg. strip every 8 hours in the beginning and reduce quickly. Within 2 weeks I stop completely. Yes I still get sick but not nearly as bad. Now google Suboxone rehabs, there are lots of them. It is much harder to quit Suboxone than heroin. The big pharms want you to take huge amounts so you will need it forever. Methadone was much better and helped a little with pain. I have had several doctors lie to me claiming Suboxone helps with pain. I refer them to the manufacturer's web site where it clearly states that it does not. Subutex is a much better substitute about 10x cheaper 10 years ago. Almost no doctor will prescribe it though. These doctors trust big pharm and play along. They don't want to lose their living. I have yet to meet a doctor who has been in chronic pain over 36 years to understand what you can't learn from a book. I have since developed a side effect from all opioids causing chronic Lymphedema in both legs below the knees. By the time I learned it was the opioids it was too late. My legs are now purple scar tissue that hurt terribly and now cause me to trip, stumble and fall. When I take any opioids my legs legs swell up huge and I can't fit into shoes. When I don't take them I want to die. My advice, try to never start opioids. It is a dead end road. If you are already a long term patient good luck. I have seen MANY people lose their pain prescription because of a drug test showing marijuana a schedule 1 drug, way worse in our governments laws than heroin, cocaine, PCP, methadone, Dilaudid, Hydrocodone, Oxycodone all schedule 2 drugs. I am old enough to remember when they needed a warrant for a forced drug screen. Today people accept it without question. One more freedom lost. The people I saw forced off prescriptions all switched to heroin and or Fentanyl. Many overdosed and many died. Is this the right path for our Country? I think not.
