thats bs ive been additiiced to different pain killers for 15 years since a car accident it is always a problem and when you begian to build a tolerance you are also building an addtiction ,and if you dont understand how 1/2 life works you will end up dead such as with methadone ,its not gone just be cause it feels like it is,i take 100mg morphine 2 times a day and 30 mg of ocyicodone 4 times five years ago that would have killed me dead .its not how strong something is but the tolerance someone has build up to it and how long that form of narcotic lasts .codine is probabley one of the strongest out there as it only comes in grains fentanal is in micrograms or something didiluid comes in single digit mg compaired to morphine up to 100 mg so far instance per mg 1 mg of codine if way stronger than1 mg of morphine ,this is refering to take home meds not hospital meds where you are monitered so if you have to thae these type meds for long term pain management then make sure that you understand how why when and for how long they work and also your life will revolve around makeing sure that you are never without them our you will be more sick than you are hurt.

Guest 4, wow sounds like you have a problem with drugs yourself and your mad at the world and anyone who is on pain meds,,,you know not everyone is an addict! But my dear Guest 4- you seem to either be a recovering addict or had a loved one who ruined their life on drugs. Or maybe just jealous because you can't get pan meds for YOUR HABIT. I have Chronic pain due to Chronic illness that I will have the rest of my life, I do not feel euphoric from my pain meds and that is because it is working on the pain, however if I took these pain meds and didn't have the chronic pain that I do...then I am sure that I would feel euphoria...you couldn't imagine the pain that some people have...from surgical mistakes as was posted to other illness that cause excruciating pain, making the quality of life very poor, so with these pain meds people who suffer like myself are able to function, walk, move...things like that....So save your little outburst for your personal journal..I know this what you wrote was 4 years ago, and wonder why you are even looking here??? How odd.... . I wonder if you yourself are now (4 yrs later) shooting heroin under a bridge,,goodness gracious. How can you complain about the speck of sawdust in my eye when you have a log in yours?? (from the bible in case you didn't know) but I myself, have to be in pain management...I have a very very great career and I am successful. It is a shame that there are people so rotten out there...but maybe you were having a bad day so...I will pray for you and for all of us in pain every single minute, hour and day of our lives and we aren't all drug addicts get a life Guest 4. :-)

I too have RA and I am having a terrible time with pain control..My doctor has tried methotrexate, steroids and several of the new biologic medications, but nothing gives me refief as good as Norco 10 mg. Everyone seems so reluctant to prescribe the medication; I fell as though I am asking for heroin! I do not abuse my meds, I am just looking for some type of relief. The pain and fatique is really taking a toll on my psychological well-being and my marriage. There has gort to be something that can help!

Has anyone ever suggested Fentenyl patches - brand name is Duragesic. They come in a variety of dosages and you wear the same patch for (usually) 72 hours. Fentenyl is generally said to be about 100 times stronger than morphine, but when you put a patch on, it slowly releases the medication, so that at hour 12 you are receiving the full effect - ditto with nearing the 72 hour mark. No ups and downs, or needing to pop pills all the time. Coupled with a "break through" pain med of anything from ibuprofen to dilauded, it is a good way to control chronic pain - at least it has been for me.

I am in the same position as you. after the morphine she went to oxymorphone which is supposed to be 5x's stronger but does nothing for the pain.

I am a ten (10) year veteran survivor of a spinal cord injury which occured as a result of a drunk driver. (Who by the way 1. was not injured, and 2. never even went to jail! I was a passenger in a truck that rolled, rolled, rolled, then burst into flames...) Sorry, I digress... Anyway, as I said folks ten years with a spinal cord injury. I have severe nerve pain (oh yeah, brilliant surgeons put my c3, gota a new c4, c5, & c6 vertabrea back together, so It's not all doom & gloom, I am grateful I can walk. Like really, they called me and "experiment"! Needless to say, especially the brilliant surgeons could in no way know, guarentee or even predict the outcome of immediate surgery vs wait for swelling to go down first (7 days, at least)... Apparently spinal cord damage is as much a mystery as brain surgery in that EVERY outcome is DIFFERENT with only marginal similarities in how they heal. That being said, I wear a fentynal patch (100mcu) changed every 48hrs (instead of the standard 72hrs), break thru pain control (Morphine Sulfate Immediate Release (30mg x6 daily) hence it's called IMMS contin 30mg). I have not had a dosage change in the whole 10 years. I should also say, nerve pain sufferers especially listen: it's not all about trying to be pain free! If I DID THAT, and I have, to medicate me to painfree status Id need that hospital bed back, and my wheelchair & cane of course, and at 42 I'm not ready to go back to THAT! It would just be too much meds! Med overload if you will. Its all toxic to your system. The key is to find a combo (long-acting such as fentynal,) and an immediate release med (molrphine or dilaudid). It bolis down to QUALITY OF LIFE. You begin to think in terms of "how much pain CAN I live with/deal with" and you find BALANCE. Not as easy done as said, I'm afraid. I tell you as a nerve pain sufferer, "it is a good day if I can stand the shower. On bad days, it feels like the water is ripping, and shredding my skin off! Even tho I can see that it's not, the SENSATION from nerve damage makes it excruciating! Thank God for "good days"! I figure I am not "unique" in this journey though. At the pain control dr I go to I see lots worse off than me. And they're still Kickin it! And the older than me crowd (it;s really a drag sitting in the waiting room with a couple of folks lookin 10 years older than me I wondering if this is all I have to look forward too?) But you really shouldn't go there either. It's too depressing. So you find BALANCE. Some days "balance" to me means I can attend on of my boys's baseball games and not be miserable, but not be so f**ked up that I "steal the show"! I know thatsounds crass, but it needs to be said. I suggest you find an immediate & long-term pain relief & stick with it. Try and see how better you are as a part of your family, group, inter-acting and remember it rather than trying for "pain free" (does not exist) status. Be it morphine or dilaudid.

moraphene lasts longer then diladid however diladid makes you feel better then moraphene. So if your into the feeling then diladid is better by far. However both are pain rreliever. You would take less pills by using moraphene.
