I have been experiencing my heart racing for awhile now but just recently did it start getting worse. But as it got worse it came with more symptoms. Not only would my heart race but my chest on the left side gets this sharp pain in it, it becomes hard for me to breath, I get really hot and feel like I am sweating, my vision gets really blurry and i sometimes even black out. My mother keeps telling me it is anxiety but i believe it has to be something else. I am not stressed out and when this happens i am not thinking about anything that would stress me out.. It usually happens when i am up and active moving around playing with my dog or something. But then again sometimes it happens when i am laying in my bed or on the couch. But what really scared me is when it happened when I was driving luck enough for me I was out on a back road getting ready to pull in to my drive way but before I did i stopped the car cause i couldn't see and i couldn't breath. What is wrong please help thank you :-(

A racing and pounding heart might be caused by high blood glucose levels (see yedda.com/questions/High_blood_glucose_levels_rapid_8626163591617/).

Hi there, Last year on new years my mother had a really bad chest pain which ruined her new year and had to be picked up in an ambulance. The day after she was fine. She went to see the doctors and the same thing happened to her they couldn't find anything.

All this year she had to miss a lot of work just so she could go in and get more tests done. She said she felt dizzy alot and had chest pains but just thought because she was working all the time and missing alot of lunch that it was the cause.

The doctors thought it was her liver at first but after hooking her up to alot of machines it turned out even at 44 she was way too young to be feeling all these symptoms. Now we know that it is in the blood line and that she can drop at any time and that it was lucky they kept on top. Its called Zee T for short. My poor mum had to walk on a treadmill for about an hour while they checked her heart rate. They said she had an iregular heart beat. A normal heart beat has two but she almost had an extra beat.

Hope this helps. Maria

Hey, I'm 33, ostensibly in good health, don't drink much (i.e. don't get drunk), don't do any drugs (and haven't since I was about 27--and even then I could count my total drug experiences on one hand), don't drink much coffee (1 cup in the morning), sleep 8hr every night... I do, however, work basically from the time I get up to the time I go to bed, but I also have 4 months of the year off (university teacher), when I still kinda work, but I'm really relaxed...

Anyway, I'm not stressed and I'm not on any unusual substances, but I had a major attack--first ever--on my way to a job interview the other day. I wasn't even stressed about it. I was looking forward to it, in fact, because it was a pretty good chance, but one that I wouldn't be too upset about if I didn't get it (I didn't). Anyway, I had to get up a little early for it, but that still means like 6.5 hours of sleep. But I was so tired I could barely stay awake on the train.

I nodded off for about one second, and suddenly I became terrified that I was about to ejaculate. Like a wet dream. I felt a rush of adrenaline and heart-pounding, and I totally panicked and stood up and walked to the door, my mind racing over what on earth was going wrong with my body, when suddenly the world started spinning. This scared me even more and I started to panic, my heart pounding out of my chest. I didn't know what was going on. I went up to my wife and all I could say was "Water. Water." She looked at me like I was insane until I grabbed the bottle of water out of her purse and started chugging. It didn't help.

"I'm getting off here," I said, emotionless, and got off the train. She ran after me.

I walked up and down the platform, chugging the water and trying to regain control of my breathing. I started to calm down.

Long story short, I made it to the interview on time, despite having to do anything to stay focused and positive on the train, else it would start up again. At one point in the interview the room started spinning, but I just kind of focused and talked through it and it went away.

My wife had been sick a few days earlier, so we decided it was a fever or something. I went home and slept the rest of the day, ate dinner, and slept all night. I felt great the next day. That was Sunday.

Today is Wednesday. I was driving to work, and I was singing along with my stereo (something I do every time I drive alone--loudly) and suddenly there was this rush of adrenaline again, which was really pleasant for about half a second, because it was like the rush I used to get when I was actually singing with my band onstage... And then it didn't stop. It just kept growing, and I started getting scared. I was driving in morning rush hour traffic, and my heart was racing and I was spinning...

I kind of just forced myself to calm down and breath slowly, and I pulled into the nearest service station and bought gas. This seemed to clear my head pretty well, and I drove carefully to work.

Today I felt strange all day, but the thing about all of this is that I can't tell how much of it is physical and how much is psychological... And that scares me, which makes me feel weird, but that makes me wonder how much is physical and how much...

You know what I mean. It's clear that it's part panic, but the panic, I think, is totally reasonable when the world starts spinning and your heart starts racing for no apparent reason.

I have yearly health checkups, which always report me to be in good health. I eat well; I'm not overweight... I take pretty good care of my body...

What the hell is this? I'm so worried that I'm going to die and leave my wife alone...

BTW, actually, my grandfather died rather suddenly of a heart attack, but he had had heart disease for a long time, ate like c**p, and was a pretty serious alcoholic for a few decades (before I was born).

Ugh...

has anyone figured out why you get these symptoms yet?
I just had an attack 2 nights ago and like all of you the tests come up saying that im a perfectly fine healthy person, but it doesn't feel that way... 2 days afterwards, its still hard to breathe and 2 or 3 times today i felt kindof dizzy or out of my head per-se, especially in the shower.

I smoke weed and cigs but am considering quitting.

one thing on my mind is that maybe my lungs are full of fluid or something from the weed Resin and maybe thats blocking air flow to my blood?

it could be just a bit of paranoia
but it feels like im going to get worse...

its pretty scary

if anyone can help me id appreciate it eagerly
email me or something, ****

please and thank you

Well its nice to know that there are others out there that have these same problems and I'm not crazy. Im 39 and have been having different symptoms since Oct 2008. I was laying on the couch watching tv and simply turned my head from the left to the right and my world spun out of control. This first happened on a saterday, sunday night came and it wasnt any better and I pretty much knew it was vertigo so my husband took me to the ER because I just couldn't make it to monday when the doctor's office opened so the ER doctor confirmed it was BPV (Benign Positional Vertigo) put my on antivert and valium(didnt take the valium) had to see my family doctor the next day and he showed me how to ease the sympoms. Well the vertigo eventually eased up and I was starting to be able to get back to normal life. Then Nov 17th of 2008 I had some running around to do so I had a quick breakfast(I also have reactive hypoglycemia) and while driving my blood sugar dropped (symptoms are...sweating, dizziness, blurred vision, cant concentrate, feeling of being closed in on) my daughter called 911 and I was rushed by ambulance back to the ER. Well they got my blood sugar regulated but shortly after that is when I had my first episode of the "panick attack" At first it felt like my sugar was dropping but my heart was beating out of my chest and I had this weird feeling in my chest. The best way I can discribe it was like someone had just rubbing a whole bunch of mineral ice on my chest. I had tingles rushing down my left side down my arm and down my leg and it would come and go. They did a ekg and had me on a heart monitor. My EKG they said was fine that I was just having episodes of rapid heart rate. So they gave me ativan by IV and gave me another script for valium which this time I did end up taking and told me I had to see my family doctor within 2 days. Well saw him and he put me on celexa and said hopefully that will help. I was still having these "Panick Attacks" but they where getting less and less and then the day before thanksgiving 2008. 911 once again had to be called to my home .This time I was having chest pressure, chest pain that was off to the right side and felt like someone was stabbing me through to my back. Both arms and legs where tingling. When the medics got there my blood pressure was elevated and then it would drop drastically. Got to the hospital and they did blood work, xrays, another EKG and the heart monitor and had me so doped up that I wouldnt of cared if my bed was on fire. They admitted me that night for more testing and I ended up having a nucular stress test done. Thankfully all the testing showed it wasnt my heart and they let me go home and try enjoy the rest of my thanksgiving and they sent me home with xanax this time. So now i'm taking celexa everyday and xanax when I have the "Panic Attack sympotms". Oh and now my doctor says I cant drive until the attacks get under some kind of control. Last time I saw him was just before christmas and he asked me if the sympotms where from the vertigo, the low sugar or the panic attacks . I honestly couldnt tell him becuase they all have simular symptoms and I dont know where one begins and ends and where another starts. They seem to just run together. Right now I feel like my life is not my own that these symptoms run my life. My low sugar has gotten worst. It drops multiple times a day and I'm always dizzy and my heart races all the time. I have to see the doctor again this month and he said if the attacks havent lessened then he'll do more blood work checking my thyroid and hormone levels. I just hope that shortly I can get my life back and he will find out why these episodes are happening. I just feel like everything is related to the other.

Hi there! I'm 20 years old. Have had panic attacks since I was 15. I, as well, had an EKG done, doctor visits, etc. Heart's great. What I did, I exercised religiously. I ate healthy food EG -> Rice, unprocessed foods, never ate at a fast food restaurant. And it was great! And then it happened again. I find it happens most in Winter. During the summer, I'm generally great. I used to smoke a lot of pot, daily, and I attributed that to my anxiety. Who's to say?

I know people who completely abuse their bodies with bad food, no exercise, terrible drugs, little sleep - and they don't have panic attacks.

We have terrible air quality in the city, lots of radio wave pollution, fluoride in our water, hydrogenated vegetable oil in everything. I think the general population is affected more and more these days. I talk to my father, and we discussed how he rarely knew of anxiety attacks in the '70s other than drug overdoses. Same with asthma. My mom is a sufferer, and my sister, of anxiety.

I still get anxiety, and it's definitely stress related these days.
When I get a panic attack, there's no relief I can find. I ride it out, eat something sugar-based, drink lots of water, and try and keep mind-over-matter. I'm a hypochondriac, so it doesn't help to worry about this or that which could be wrong.

The funny thing - if I'm busy at work - never any anxiety.
If I'm busy at home, never any anxiety.
If I'm calm, stuck in traffic, I may get an attack.
If I'm on a long road walking, I may get an attack.
I think it's more of a conscious, "What-if" anxiety of being stuck somewhere.

I'm glad so many of you have completely healthy bodies - what more could we wish for? Except, the root of panic attacks has never been found. There has to be a common denominator in all of us!

Hopefully we can all overcome this.

I recently had the same thing happen to me, I am 35 and one day out of the blue, all of a sudden my heart went pounding away, I took a xanex thinking that would help, but it did not, I called the paramedics and they did a EKG right here in my home and my heart was racing 260, YEAH, I thought I was going to die, They then took me to the nearest hospital and finally got an IV inserted, they then gave me some type of medication that actually stops my heart for a short 6 seconds and shocked it back to normal rhythm. Very scary, I then found out by the cardiologist that I had an extra pathway to my heart in the blood flow, I then the next day had and Ablaton done. The doc went in through my groin with a catheter and did the ablation. He explained to me that a lot of people have this extra pathway and all the anxiety people think they are having are really this flow and not anxiety. I don't know , but I do know , my 16 year old is having these every so often now.

I am 27 and started having these same symtoms about 6 months ago. I had a baby in April, my Galbladder taken out in June and my Wisdom teeth taken out in December. I have Hypothyroidism and am Pre-Diabetic. I am overweight and I smoke. Everything was fine until I got pregnant. I have quite a few problems during my pregnancy but felt great as soon as I had the baby.

I first started noticing things were off about 6 months ago when I was go outside of work to smoke. I would get really lightheaded, dizzy and short of breath. It would last a little bit then I would be fine. In October, I was layed off from my job and was home for about 3 months. I was being paid in this time so I wasn't stressing about money to much. Right before I was about to get my last paycheck I found a new job. I was very thankful and excited about this job. I started work and everything was great. I was leaning everything just fine, it wasn't stressful at so it came as a surprise to me when after 1.5 weeks into the job I went to lunch and never returned. I never returned to work that day because while as lunch my heart started pounding and racing. I wasn't sure what was going on but it scared me to death. I went to the ER and my HR was at 180 and my BP was 189/106. They gave me some baby asprine and some sprays of something in my mouth to bring my BP down. I was in the ER for about 10 hours. They did an EKG, X-ray of my heart, and a lung scan. Everything came back okay. They told me to go see a cardiologist, which I did. I just had a nuclear stress test done last week and I had a 24 hour holster. I go back tomorrow for the results. I know I didn't do very well on my stress test because I wasn't on the treadmill long before my heart rate shot up. They lady said my heart reacted unusually to exercise. They did a ultasound of my heart and they said it's pumping good but it's pumping very hard. I started on a high dose of Paxil on Saturday and it made me feel kinda crummy. Sunday I felt fine but now today, Monday... I was fealing very nausea earlier and my heart was racing and pounding. I scares me to death to know "know" the cause of all this. Today when I was having the heart pounding, I came to my computer and started reading this forum and the feeling went away. I don't know if it went away because I felt like I wasn't alone with all this anymore or if it was just a panic attack and it's was done. It makes me think it's just a panic attack because of the way it comes and goes.

If anyone has any answers, please let me know. I will let you guys know what my dr. says tomorrow.

I am not sure if anyone reads this anymore, but I wanted to let everyone know that I got my results back. They told me my heart is good but I have extreme anxiety and I fast heart rate and the min I got a tad bit excited or stressed my heart rate shoots up even more.

They put me on a Beta-Blocker and it seems to be working pretty well.

Glad you know what it is at last and things are getting better!

For the last 3 months I have felt like a totally different person. I very first became aware of elevated heartbeat about 3 months ago which quickly subsided, I was smoking at the time so put it down to that. Then came random chest pains (not painful) I was just aware that my chest hurt, dizzyness and a numb cold feeling in random parts of my arms and chest. Had an ECG and bloodwork done which all came back fine. These symtpoms have continued and last night I had awful trouble getting to sleep. I remember waking with a jolt about 3 times before waking fully and realising by heart was pounding FAST! It reached about 135 bpm and wouldn't slow down. 3 hours and early morning TV later, it came down to about 100 at which point I fell asleep. It left me shaking all over and feeling freezing a shivery. I feel very weak today but I guess that is lack of sleep.

I also sometimes get distortions in my vision and see things (walls and solids items) moving or wobbling! I need to close my eyes to regain the normal perspective.

I have recently quit smoking which has made no difference, I am a 29 year old female, don't drink much and am normal weight.

This has taken over my life, I no longer am bubbly and happy but constantly worrying that I have heart disease, cancer, brain tumours. I know it sounds stupid but my mind goes into overdrive when I feel like this. My relationship is starting to suffer and I feel like a miserable old witch all the time.

Sorry, not really helped anyone here but needed a good rant! %-)
