my boyfriend is going through some depression lately... I don't know why and what are the reasons for this because he doesn't want to talk about it. I was observing him and I was noticing that he is eating without any control, that he can't stop, which he never did before. He was always into the sports and now, he is eating all day and almost all night. I did some research and I find out that this can be related to binge eating disorder. Can it be? I mean, I do know a couple of females who suffered from it, but men? Does men suffer from a binge eating disorder?

It is common in both - male and female as well.
Actually, even if is really hard for you to believe at this, about 40% of the male population suffer from binge eating disorder.
And also, you really need to know that healing male is really bigger problems and issue than treating one lady. Why? Because males, who are diagnosed with this type of disorder, may have such physical symptoms as type II diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol. Also, I would add heart disease, gallbladder disease, ostoarthritis and gastrointestinal problems in this category. It is very important to know that they may avoid treatment detecting these issues. It is struggle and I wish you all luck.

The main stereotype is because we do believe that men are much stronger than a ladies, but that is not true in so many cases. You should be aware that in the past, ED has been characterized as “women’s problems” and men have been stigmatized from coming forward or have been unaware that they could have and this eating disorder. But that is way out of the true, because man can also deal with it, they can suffer more than any lady. Generally, additional research is needed, about so many different things, but several studies provide that a lot of male population actually can deal with this issue.

Binge eating disorder treatment is more than important. In our mind is that a lot of different problems we can heal alone. That is not quite true. Some disorders, just like this one, needs to be observed by the experts. Yes, because there are so many experts, from nutritionist, physiologist, etc who should be involved in the treatment process. So, males getting eating disorders as well and I think that some researchers show that males are affected almost by the same number of ladies, there are no rules. But the main problem is, I agree, they don't want to accept that.

Yes, sure. They do suffer from it. Anyway, it says that some specific categories are affected. For example, male athletes have an increased vulnerability to eating disorders. I think that the most affected are those who are a weightlifters, wrestlers, gymnasts, dancers, jockeys, and bodybuilders as well.  I generally do believe that people who do sports and who are so obsessed with it have a bigger chances of getting some disorders.  So, there are no rules. If you think that your boyfriend has something like this, you need to find the best way to come close to him and to tell him that you know what is he going through.

Hello ladies.
From my own experience, I can say that men do suffer from a binge eating disorder and it is really hard for them to accept that they do have something like this. That they do have something that needs to be treated, because, I think that this somehow affects their ego. Who can tell? Unfortunately, my brother is having problems with it. We found out about this two years ago, and trust me, it was really hard to talk to him about this. He told us that he is perfectly fine, that he has no problem with it, etc. And when we showed some facts and some things to him, then he accepted. It is harder to set some therapy, but that doesn't mean that this is not possible.
