The neck pain could be related to dehydration. I'm not a doctor but I did start experiencing neck pain while drinking and the next day my neck felt horrible (and ears which is what brought me here) but I read up on the neck pain and it was suggested to drink a lot of water to rehydrate. It helped me a lot and my neck feels better, so if you haven't done that yet I strongly suggest it!

I get it too...and never touch beer or wine. I drink whiskey. Yes, I have short narrow eustacian tubes and already wear a night guard for TMJ, custom fitted. It's really frustrating but interesting to see others are having this pain with alcohol!

I had this problem for years. My doctor suggested acid reflex as a result allergic reaction to alcohal. Started to take tums when it starts hurting and it immediately goes away. Problem is in a short time the tums wear off and I need to take more. Guess I need to stop drinking.

I'm so glad to find this post. I've never seen anyone else with this. I'm a neurobiologist, and while in grad school, a friend told me that I must have low monoamine oxidase levels. The symptoms for me are the same as others have when they take MAO inhibitors (an anti-depressant) but I don't take those meds. I have the same symptoms from cheap red wine (no insult intended) and ripe cheese. These foods have a lot of tyramine. Other tyramine foods include slightly spoiled foods and organ meats. Red wines vary in how much tyramine they have, which is why it doesn't always happen, at least for me. The pain itself is likely the result of increased blood pressure from the tyramine in the red wine, which isn't a good thing. I've done my genetic testing on 23andMe and this confirmed the MAO gene variant. If you have the same thing I do, you should avoid any medications that people on MAO inhibitors are supposed to avoid - there are warnings on the over the counter medications.

It's related to a lack of vitamin C - drink some orange juice or bite/suck on a lemon (I do this if I'm at a bar or restaurant and in a pinch it works). Its an almost immediate fix.

I have recently been getting really bad vertigo when I drink even moderate amounts of alcohol and last night after 2 drinks I got ear pain! These symptoms only occur after drinking for me so I did some research and it seems that alcohol is absorbed by ghe fluid in your inner ear even after it has left your bloodstream. This may be a clue as to why it's causing pain in some of us?

I get pain in my ears when drinking, and I believe I know what causes it, but still don't know why.
I think it's sulphites that causes it, happens whenever I drink most wines, Brut, cider, alcopops, but would like to know why as it is very painful, like a pin been stuck in my head directly below ear lobe.

I found this thread in the middle of an ear pain episode... for lack of better words and description, the sensation i get is mildly painful and almost a sparckley sensation behind the jaw bone. I've tolerated it for years and notice it especially when eating starch like white rice then drinking wine. So tonight i found this vit c recommendation and wow. I took the first bite of an orange and it literally chased the pain away instantly as I swallowed. Thanks for posting!
