I understand if you have a drink within (uncertain time) it may affect your GTT tests and I am asking if the same thing is possible for having lupus and affecting the ethanyl (blood alcohol) amount in your bloodstream?  What about Metobolic Syndrome?

hello i am a guest to this site and the only reason i googled this is because i just had a heart felt convo with my mother... On the topics of drinking and smoking with lupus... i recently lost my aunt last wednesday.. She has been battling lupus and diabetes for quit sometime now and im sure it was before my birth ( 25 years ago). Anyways, she drank excessively. I will never be able to recall an occassion where i EVER saw her and she was not under the influence. but that was just my auntie, she had fun and didnt think about any of the consequences. We went to our home state for Christmas '12 and she was in the hospital, ICU in fact. She was in a diabetic coma. We were unable to see her, but after we left we we're told that she was released from the hospital. 3 weeks later, she was found dead in her car outside of a club. The autopsy report showed that over the years, her drinking and medication intake completely destroyed her organs. her liver, pancrease, and lungs all shut down. Im sure the doctors advised her years ago not to drink, but im sure that my aunt wouldn't have listened if jesus told her himself. The point of the matter is, please consult your doctor before drinking with any condition. I know that this was a very long post, but it helped me to get the story out there. Her life did not end bc of having lupus, but by not following the simple directions when she was diagnosed!

If you feel always feel awful the next day, your own body is giving your the answer. Dude, Our bodies don't let us down. When I want to look especially clear skinned and beautiful, it's hard if I've not adhered to what my body has shown me. I was once a pretty girl and now I struggle to feel pretty in my own marriage. Listen to your bodies and the flares.

I have had lupus for 13 years and was drink at the age of 18. I only drank alcohol when I went out or on a special occasions. Alcohol never caused my lupus to flare up. I mixed different alcohols and everything but when I turned 24 that's when I start noticing problems. Everyone lupus is different but soon or later you will have flares or problems if you drink alcohol

I've had lupus for 12 years and I drink alcohol almost every weekend and it's never caused a flare up. Lack of sleep causes a flare up more than alcohol. Drinking alcohol is not recommended if you're taking certain medication, but personally I've never had a flare up due to alcohol.

I'm 33 years old and I feel like c**p for several days after drinking. I truly believe that alcohol effects me negatively. I truly believe in listening to your body. If your tired, sleep. If alcohol makes u feel weak and sick for a day, two days or more.... don't drink. Only you know your body and what it responds to negatively and positively.

Hi there. I am currently in the hospital with my boyfriend who has been diagnoses with viral spinal meningitis but they are concerned that it may be lupus and are awaiting test results. Over the past year he would have vertigo spells and a fever but would subside within a few days. This time, symptoms did not subside (and haven to yet) and progressively got worse.

My questions is: He was drinking heavily for a few weeks then suddenly stopped. I understand he most likely went through some withdrawals, but I'm wondering if this is what could have cause this nasty flare up? IF, in face, this is what he has. The lowering of the immune system, or possibly even complete inactivity of it, would allow such a flare up for this long of period? It has now been a full week of symptoms. Not sure if anyone can help. Thank you.

I just found this thread and thought I'd advise that I specifically went to the doctor as every time I consumed alcohol I would get a rash on my legs. They've done many tests and I've finally been recently been diagnosed with Lupus. So the alcohol brought out my "flare".

I am 38 and up until 7 years ago I was able to consume alcohol without any issues. All of a sudden, after drinking a few beers, I would get these rashes on my legs. It only got worse so I stopped drinking. I was just recently diagnosed with Lupus and now it all makes sense to me.

I'm confused why someone that eats organically and juices regularly would consume alcohol and smoke.
