I would like to drive a minibus for a job.  I am worried that mayber I won't get the job if I have diabetes.  Can they refudse to hire someone if they have a disease of some sort?  I would like to be able to drive the city bus and they have openings as of now.  Does anyone have any information about the rules on driving a public vehicle?  Any information would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you really want this job!  I would think that you would need a physical before doing this type of job so you will be sent to their company physician or occupational health office to check you over.  This would include getting a vision screening.  Have you been to the eye doctor since being diagnosed with diabetes? They may recommend you going to an ophthalmologist for a thorough eye exam, especially if they find any significant findings in their vision screening and they see that you are diabetic in your medical history.  It's nothing to be worried about, however.  Just as long as your vision is good or good with corrective lenses, you shouldn't worry about not having a chance of getting the job. They will ensure you have an eye exam every year if you are hired for the job.  This is to ensure that you and their passengers are safe.  As a driver of a minibus, you should keep in mind that you need to be on the lookout for hypoglycemic episodes.  Keep snacks with you at all times in case you feel light-headed or nauseous.  You don't want to pass out at the wheel with several passengers in your care.  Do any other diabetic transportation drivers want to share their experiences?  Do you have to do a yearly exam for vision?
