my recent blood test results were 187 ast and 209 alt--how bad is this

The normal levels for both of them, as i recall, are 0-40 and 0-50. So your results show some elevation of them, but it's not too much. For example, the values in some patients with acute hepatitis A could go up to several thousand! Although hep B and C usually have lower values but are more dangerous.
Your results could be a consequence of recent drug intake or even alcohol, but the best you can do is talk to your doctor.
