If your oxygen saturation is 97% 98% and 99% most of the time shouldn't that point to the fact that you don't have Emphezema?

How low can your oxygen saturation go before you need to worry?
Mary Anne
hi, emphysema is a form of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. the oxygen saturation levels that you have mentioned are classed as relatively normal, however copd is a progressive and worsening condition, so in the earlier stages of the illness o2 sats can be maintained despite suffering the condition. in order to be sure a firm diagnosis must be made by a specialist and treatment prescribed accordingly. as the condition progresses the body will begin to depend on hypoxic drive for respiration so although the o2 sats may drop the body will adapt and cope to a certain extent. hope this helps - kate
