I had my appendix taken out 10 days ago and came back into the ER with the same pain, I got sent for a CT scan and found that I had swollen lymph nodes in my stomach. Doctors are just plain hopeless.

I was diagnosed with swollen lymph nodes too, almost had my appendix taken out... It's been several years and I still have the pain occasionally..but now it comes less frequently as I seem to notice a pattern whereby I tend to get this only after drinking too much coffee...

Do any of the children / teens with these symptoms take medication for ADD/ADHD? I am 25 years old with similar issues that have been occurring for the past 4+ years, and have been taking ADD medication for over 12 years. I am curious whether there is a link or not.I am currently in the process of further tests on my abdominal symptoms. Urinalysis found high levels of white blood cells in my urine, though we're uncertain if there is a link. I have received two CT scans over the past 2 years, and last year I had my appendix removed in ER. However, I still get pain/bloating symptoms in my lower rigth abdominal quadrant.Best of luck to all of you.

My 13 year old is going thru the same thing sent home from school the week before christmas vomiting and in pain, went to ER and they said probably the flu, tomorrow will be 3 weeks and still has pain, went back to ER tonight and they did CT scan and said her lymph nodes were enlarged to follow up with her PCP in morning. Don't you think they should be able to explain a little more or let you know the possiblilites of what we might be dealing with. The NP said it could be mono and said have your dr test her for that, why didn't they test her for it. I am really hoping the PCP will help us out. hope your son is doing better

This happened to my 12 year old daughter too. Sever pains after a bad flu. Went on for months and doctor kept throwing perscriptions at her, which didn't work. I took her to a naturopath and they told me to remove all wheat and gluten from her for a month. After a bad flu, the stomach lining can be raw and wheat/gluten will cause severe pain. I thought no way this could work, but to my amazement it did. That's all it took. A few months later she was good as new. Amazing! GIVE IT A TRY.

My son is 13. He has been sick on and off since Jan 2013. At that time he was very sick for a week. Unable to attend school most of the time. Mesenteric lymphs are enlarged since his first CT scan performed in January 2014. Other symptoms are: chronic headache, stomach pain, fatigue, and in general feeling badly. We have been to an infectious disease doc, gastro, Children's Hospital neuro and cardiologist, ER at childrens hospital. I just took him to an integrative medicine doc and he is looking at the bigger picture now. He is on blood pressure medicine as his blood pressure was very low in February 2014..... that is corrected for the most part but there were days his pressure was 80/55 and he had extreme vertigo. His EBV panel is always elevated showing past infection, his ferratin is low, his baseline cortisol is low, his Vit D has been hovering around 17-20 for more than one year. Basically he has five doctors now..... Children's diagnosed him with POTS and he is scheduled for a tilt table test this month. POTS can come on after a severe viral infection. I research every week to find other parents going through the same thing. We are our best advocate..... the new integrative medicine doc ordered a PET scan for his abdomen which ruled out lymphoma. We are meeting with him again today. I would really like to read any successes that other parents have had. I cannot remember the last day that my son said he felt good. He has been checked for active mono, Lymes, and had many stool samples last October at the gastro. He has had colonoscopy, endoscopy, CT scan of the abdomen, PET scan, sinus CT scan. Thank you.

Look up Mesenteric Adenitis. Common in male youth's and mimics appendicitis.

i am 46 years old i noticed a lump on my side about 5 years ago it didn't hurt or anything. however i ask about it during a physical and the nurse said it was likely a fatty tumor and was nothing to worry about a lot of people have them. so here i am 5 years later and the lump is painful and now there are several of them in my stomach area. i went to the er and the doctor didn't do any test but told me they were not fatty tumors but were swollen lympnodes and i should get them checked out cause they could be cancerous. this scared me so i went to the doctor the next day... she checked them and said that the one under my sternum appeared to be attached to my breast bone and she wanted to do an ultrasound. while doing the ultra sound they acted concerned about the lump on my side and said it was over my spleen. The technician sent for another person to observe the area. I waited about two weeks for the results for them to tell me i was fine and that the ultra sound showed an enlarged liver but other than that i was ok. i was relieved but ask about what the lumps were and they responded to me what lumps... really i ask for a second opinion so they referred me to a surgeon whom called me to say hes uncertain on why he got a referral when the notes state that nothing was found. he said he is a general surgeon and can not help me if nothing is wrong. So my husband got me an appointment with his GI doctor for today. I hope everything is ok and i am wrong. but i cant help but believe something is wrong. i have these painful lumps and i just want answers about what they are and how treat them. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I know that this was posted a while back. I hope that your daughter is doing well. I am at a loss. My daughter is going through the same type of thing. We are in the hospital right now. This is the 2nd stay in a month. Did it hurt your daughter to take a deep breath, or even a shallow breath?

I hope that your son is better. My daughter has the same symptoms exactly and a history of fatigue, reaccurring mono, joint pains, lower back pain, daily headaches... I am in the hospital with her now for the second time this month with the added symptoms of extreme upper right quadrant pain. It was unbearable. It hurt(s) her to even take a breath. Yesterday she couldn't even take a shallow breath without the pain in that area becoming unbearable. She was in the hospital for 4 days a few weeks ago. She was extremely ill - on top of the typical daily pains and symptoms. They tested her for Menigitis along with several other things but we left not knowing anymore than we did when we went in. It wasn't the flu or Strep. We were told that it was a viral infection that caused the lining of her brain to swell as well as her joints. She was on 2 different IV antibiotics (maybe because they thought it was bacterial meningitis, but even after we were told it was viral she continued the antibiotics and went home with a 10 day prescription and steroids. Her back pain continued to get worse. Had an X-ray and an MRI of spine, but nothing showed up. We were just told that her lymph nodes in the right part of her abdomen are enlarged/inflamed. Inflammation has been and continues to show up in blood tests. She has had chronic low blood pressure and random, but severe heart pains/pounding for at least 5-6 years as well. She is now 17. After the heart pain "episode", for lack of a better term, happens she is exhausted. We did have the tilt test, but even though a lot of the results lined up with being POTS not all did, so she wasn't clinically diagnosed with that. The abdomen pain came on suddenly yesterday and she had a spike in her temperature. She very rarely has a day without pain and never has a day without fatigue. It also seems like if she has an overly active day(s) it wipes her out and she needs a few days to regain her usual level of energy or lack there of. She is not over weight. She is as active as her body allows and is fairly well conditioned. She loves softball and plays/practices as much as she can. It is the one thing that keeps her going and her doctor incourages it as long as she doesn't over do it - which of course she does, hence the previous comment about recouping from overly active days. Any and all advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.
