I am 55 years old male and weigh 250 lbs (down from 280 in early Jan with goal of 210 by the end of the year). I have been walking 4-6 times a week for 3.5 to 6 miles. My time is usually between 16-17 minute miles. I use to be in the military and was running 5 miles 5 days a week but that was 15 years ago. My daughter (who is 34) just got into running and loves it. I want to run with her in a 10K next spring.

My question - What would be the best routine to follow and should I even attempt running at my current weight?

Doc has said I have no major health issues (am type 2 dibetic controlled with meds which is part of the reason I want to continue to lose weight). I am worried about joint issues due to my size. Any ideas/suggestions?
