I have similar problem - mushy fat pads above the knees, although I am quite skinny and overall athletic. It kinda appeared over one winter five or six years ago and that is when I started to battle those ugly pads yet with not much success until recently. At one point I was very very thin, and even then the mushy pads were there, so I dont believe that they will be wiped off completely after fat loss and diet, because that was not my experience. The problem is quite complex - it has to do with muscles loss, it has to do with circulation as well with water retention, and with fat, but not only with fat. The biggest progress started two months ago when I crossed upon a youtube video "exercises for cellulite reduction 20 min" posted by lumowell, duration 22min47sek. This exercises are attacking mushy front tigh muscles very hard and whith upper knee pads that turned out to help a lot. I believe that people with fat pads on side knees should do exercises that are strengthening and BUILDING inside leg muscles, and to do it everyday for about 20 minutes for a couple of months -i am quite sure tthat it will help, i guarantee. It is unbelievable how much progress was made in my case, my upper front legs were lifted, they look totally differently. But please note that there are no "light" exercises that will help you tone and build muscles, you have to really feel the muscles work during exercises.

In addition, I need to say that from the beginning of exercising front upper leg muscles two months ago, the "mushy pads" area would become red during the work out and i felt that sometjing is going on whith the fat and liquid retained there. Therefore, I say, it is not only the fat, mushy muscles and circulation/liquid retention issues are to blame much more than fat. Exercising the muscles in that area improves circulation as well.
Drinking fresh water in large amounts and building leg muscles is my solution and it worked in my case. Results are unbelievable.

Massage, massage, massage. I discovered mine is connective tissue (fascia) and fat. I work out and/or take a hot shower, apply body oil, plus a massage tool to warm the tissue. Then I use my hands to loosen/massage out the thickened fat-trapping fascia and work out adhesions. I also use a vibrating handheld self massager. I recommend treating your entire leg. Once I loosened up my calves, my inner knee softened up considerably. DO NOT massage directly behind the knee. It’ll take multiple sessions. Let it heal in between.
Look up fasciablaster massage tool. I use the face blaster tool.
I’m an RN and just finished massage therapy school.

Yes! Me too! That tool inspired me to become a massage therapist in addition to bring an RN. It works!

I also have this problem. It is genetic .I am also of Eastern Europe descent, and my Mom had big knees. My granddaughter has inherited it, too. My daughter escaped it and has my husband’s good knees. It is frustrating. Even at my slimmest (143 lbs at 5’11”), I had my fat knees ( sigh). Oh, well, I guess it could be worse lol.
