Has anyone had any success? Seven weeks into this and no relief. Massive nausea to point of incapacitation. Headaches are awful. I see lots of complaints but no one has any recommendations or success replies.

I too am entirely perplexed. I realize cataract surgery is common, relatively painless and quick recovery in most. I am in my late 40's and had both eyes done. It's been nearly two months and my facial and head pain remains along the bridge of my brow and nose, throughout my face and the pain/pressure elevates when I get excited, talking etc...and pain on my temples. The dr said it absolutely is not from the surgeries. He sent me to an ENT. I find this terribly hard to believe as I've never had allergies or headaches of any sort prior. I am at a loss and don't know where to turn.

Hello All,

I had cataract surgery one week apart, both eyes seem to heal good but after two weeks after the last op I had severe headaches and been having them less now. The pain starts in the front temple and goes to the back of my neck. Had talked to my general doctor who gave me a shot and it put me to sleep for a day. I woke the third day better and less pain. I was told to take ibuprofen, Excedrin no caffeine or Tylenol. I opted to take Advil 200 mg one at a time only and it works after a few mins.
Number of things I feel is causing the headaches and are as follows:
Healing
Can't Scratch or touch eyes
Water or Solution to keep them wet
Brain trying to adjust and this is where I see most of the problem, from closeup to seeing far and we have not taken the time to work our eye as they were normal. Let me explain: Try looking faraway and than look at something close up and you will see that the eyes have some difficulty adjusting. By blinking the strain goes away.
The procedure is confusing the eye and the brain since we were used to the old vision.
This is my opinion and I find everyday my eyes are adjusting but they are causing the headaches too.

I am a 42 yr old female, had cataract surgery on my left eye almost 8 months ago. Left side headache immediately after. Turned so severe within days and never went away. I saw so many drs, dentists, spent thousands of dollars and was offered no help. The Drs. tossed me around like a hot potato. Thats what i get for paying my bills. They knew i would pay and sent me off to the next Dr so they could cash in as well. What a scam. No meds the neuro gave me worked. I only got worse on those meds. Out of despair, wanting to die and needing relief, I ordered feverfew, white willow bark and unwashed poppy seeds online. The feverfew and willowbark did not work for me but worth a try. I am in NH and Drs refused to give me opiates due to the crisis here. Ive never been a drig addict in my life. They would rather leave me in severe, suicidal, debilitating pain than give me opiates. Crazy. So now to try the poppy seeds. Very hesitant after researching the dangers but I made some Poppy seed tea. Low and behold, it worked and I had relief! I was so happy to have relief after 6 straight months of a migraine. It was euphoric relief. I was a mom and a human again! I know this isn't safe but I started with a small amount of tea to be cautious and my Drs left me no choice. None. I am a busy mom and I wanted my life back. I was useless with a migraine 24/7. I continued Poppy seed tea daily for relief for over a month and I had no opiate withdrawals, except fatigue when I stopped. My doses were very low. Just enough tea to stop the throbbing migraine. My migraine pain has reduced almost 100%. I think my body needed to get out of severe pain so that it could heal. I no longer need poppy seed tea but so thankful I tried it. I am not telling you to try it. I am telling you what worked for me. I am appalled at the medical community for not giving me safe amounts of the opiates my body needed. I want my thousands of dollars back. I will never go to a Dr again. Mother nature helped me heal. Thank you Mother Nature. FU to all the Drs i saw and PAID. Even drove 2 hours to Dartmouth for a headache specialist. Useless. I hope you have caring doctors who aren't afraid to give you opiates to at least see if they can get you out of pain and let your body heal. If people need opiates for life to not be debilitated by severe pain and suicidal, then so be it. It's the humane thing to do.I have been treated inhumanely and it seems you all have too. I wish you all healing. I have never been prescribed opiates in my life and when I needed them most, my Drs. were too scared to prescribe them.

I had cataract surgery on my right eye one week ago. Having SEVERE headaches behind that eye into my cheekbone. I'm wondering if it's because my "fixed" eye is now looking through my old glasses. Too much strain. I know that most Drs won't give you a new eyeglass prescription for at least 3-4 post-surgery, but i really think that my pain is because I need a new eyeglass prescription.

Hi and you are describing the same symtoms I've had since my cataract surgery. I'm 76 years old and have been dealing with these side effects since my eye surgery over 10 years ago. I've tried numerous migraine medications, including tylenols, motrin, toradol ect...only medication that works is 60mg toradol IM and sometimes the PO motrin 600mg works if taken during aura. Prior to my cataract surgery I had been migraine free for over 10 years. I addressed this to my eye surgeon and he denied that the surgery had triggered trigiminal nerve and therefore my migraines came back with a vengeance. I have regretted this surgery ever since and have to continue living with this unpredictable migraine headaches. I still get them 3 to 4 times per month!

I had headaches with my first surgery, 3 months ago. I have another bad headache after just having my second surgery, yesterday. I think it has something to do with the fact that my head had to be tilted downward. So, I think it is from the muscles in my neck. And, my head being strapped to the table. I'm already taking Norco for my severe arthritis. But, Advil works really well as it is an anti inflammatory medication. The headaches are not like migraines; which are on one side of the head. They feel more like a high blood pressure headache; a lot of pressure. I recommend Advil, a neck massager, and plenty of rest.

I hardly ever had a headache but after my first cataract surgery I had massive migranes every day starting late afternoon and I blamed it on the monovision at that time. 2 month later I had the 2nd cataract removed and felt even worse. Today I went for my 3 week post up and the surgereon told me everything looks OK. I got some temporary contact lenses to try and hope that this suffering will end soon after both eyes adjust to the correct power.

I have exactly the type of pain you describe, same area. My first surgery just two days ago. Have you checked to see if you have high eye pressure?
