Most likely most of these symptoms everyone is having is Acid Reflux. I've had it for years. burning sensation in the throat, pain in the chest, feels like it's a heart condition sometimes but it isn't. you even feel it in the back sometimes. actually, it can even cause heart murmurs sometimes. They're pretty harmless, but scares the heck out of you.

I heard from a doctor that in actuality, the reason why some people find no relief from acid reducers is that they have the opposite problem. some of us don't produce enough acid! that's why vinegar works sometimes. Also, I heard that enzymes work! they help your body break down food, so the esophageal sphincter (funny name) isn't pushed open by a full stomach and has time to heal so food and acid doesn't come up your throat.

also try propping up the bed a little so your head is higher than the rest of the body. that way the acid doesn't leak out of the stomach into your throat.

the Girl that spoke of the pain relieving itself when eating food has acid reflux. thick bread like a bagel helps sometimes, but it doesn't heal it, just alleviates for a few minutes. the first time I got acid reflux, I felt like i was having a heart attack or an alien was attempting to escape from my chest. scary! I was terrified.

The worst situation that could happen is esophageal cancer. Most people that gets this disease are age 50-70. heavy drinking and ARD can bring it on, unfortunately, I have the later and I'm at high risk.

hope that helps someone.

I have had several gastro tests and tried different medicines until my doctor finally said stop all meds and get Betaine HCL from the health food store. I also added digestive enzymes. I've had relief from the burning but still have the full feeling in my throat

This site was very helpful. I felt the same symptoms as many of you. And I suffer from Panic Attacks.
I went to the ENT today and they put this tube up my nose and down my throat. They only found irritation due to Acid Reflux and anxiety will worsen the feeling because it creates more acid. He gave me a medication for my Acid Reflux and told me to drink plenty of water to help with the mucus that forms around the throat. He said it should get better in a month or so.
Hope this helps.
Thanks :-)

Hey everyone I also have been experiencing these same symptoms plus once I woke up and felt like the thing hanging in the back of my mouth was bigger than usual and felt like it was clogging up my throat every time I would swallow because it felt like I was actually swallowing it. The other day I woke up and after brushing my teeth was clearing my throat and actually spit up thick mucusy blood accompanied by numerous foul smelling stone like objects. I also have a heart rate of 50 bpm, some weird inflammation in my anus, a hanging, limp testicle sack, I often have a delay in my urinary and bowel habits and very achy joints...HELP I'm only 20 years old

I've had this problem for about 20 years. First only happened when I took LSD (it actually seriously freaked me out coz I was sure it was the blotter stuck in my throat and thought i'd eventually choke/suffocate to death - not a good trip!), so obviously couldn't go to a doctor (simple solution: don't take LSD). Then it started happening for no apparent reason (i.e. no LSD involved). Saw a doctor who couldn't find anything wrong but suggested that my uvula (the punchbag thing at the back of the throat) looked particularly large, so suggested I had it removed - turns out it's pretty much useless. Had the op and it didn't help - gutted - back to square one. They basically told me there was nothing they could do for me.

Couple of years later I saw another doc (actually a chiropractor who was treating my back and who I happened to mention it to) who asked if it got better when I drank alcohol. I told him it did. He said that would be due to the muscle relaxing effect of alcohol, which tied in with the LSD-induced symptoms as LSD can create an element of anxiety that would constrict the thoat. Still couldn't find a cure for it though, except to booze it up every day.

I learned to get used to it - the main problem is a very sensitive gag reflex. I often gag or throw up when brushing my teeth and cant' stand a doctor's "lollypop stick" at the back of my tongue without gagging instantly.

Eventually years later I saw an ENT doc when I was living in Hong Kong about a throat infection - he said, "do you normally suffer from throat discomfort" to which I told him about the feeling of something stuck and he said, "oh, that's because you've got a post nasal drip" Hallelulah!!! Finally I felt like I was getting somewhere. He offered to operate to fix it but I couldn't afford it at the time (HK being very expensive).

I've not lived with it for so long I have not yet got round to having the op. It was bad about 6 months ago and saw a doc asking for the op - she suggested taking some pills (anti-mucus, anti inflamatory I think), avoiding cold drinks and drinking plenty of (not-cold) water - which cleared it up temporarily.

I'll have the op one day when I get around to it but I've had it so long now I may not even bother.

Sorry for the lengthy reply, but if it helps just one fellow sufferer it will have been worth it, and I know just how worrying it can be.

Good luck with it and do a search on post nasal drip. Hope it helps.

I too have the throat clearing problem. I also have hypothroidism. I would suggest that you look into having your thryoid checked. Sometimes thyroid issues can cause this, though I think my problem is from esophegal candida. Suck. I'm so sick of having to clear my throat all the time. It's worse after eating and upon waking.

I have had this feeling since October of 08' It feels as though something is lodged in the back of my throat and I cannot remove it even by clearing my throat. I have been to many Dr appts for this including ENT Dr's and the only response I get is you may have allergies, I have been on nasal sprays, zyrtec, heartburn medicines and so on. Nothing has worked. It causes me to have anxiety b/ of this. I think Im going insane b/ Im always thinking about this. I feel like Im going to choke or something. I finally went to the emergency room and they did a scope down my throat to see if they could find any noggles and there was nothing to be found. The Dr there diagnosed me as that I believe there is something there when there really isnt. So, when I left I really tried to tell myself its just your imagination, nothing is really there. This helped, sorta! I still feel like I have something there sometimes but I really try to ignore it so I do things to keep my self busy. I realized the only time I feel it is when I think about it. Could this be the case b/ we get so use to believing soemthing is really there?

I get that feeling occasionally but it only lasts a few minutes or so but it feels like a pill or something is stuck in my throat. I can't seem to take a deep enough breath most of the time. Every now and again sometimes when I take a deep breath it is a little painful. M doctor thinks it could just be sinus or allergy issues. It just started a month or two ago. I have never had problems with allergies or sinus in the past. The yawning things sounds familiar also. Sometimes I can't get a satisfying yawn and at times I can't stop yawning. Also, when i try and get a deep enough of a breath I yawn but not at all satisfying. I tried inhalers but they only left me coughing uncontrollably and sometimes painfully. I am at a loss for what it could be. Dr just keeps changing meds and trying new things.

I have the same sensation and have had it off and on for about 4 weeks. It is very frustrating but I have a physical this week and will talk to the dr about it. It may be acid reflux which I've had but never like this. I tired prilosec and zantac but nothing got it to go away completely...anyone have any other "cures"?

I feel so relieve that other people have the same symptoms that I have it gives me a sense of relieve, but yeah me too the main problem that I have is that I cannot take in full breaths. I dont have any breathing problems because I do a lot of sports and run a lot and it dosent effect me in a way that asthma will, i just cant take a full breath. I had an uncle with the same symptoms and he ended in the emergency room and the doctors would not able to determine what his problem was , until he went to like a naturalist and prescribed some natural stuff for acid reflux . After a couple of weeks he was completely fine. My suggestion and also what im going to do is find a natural cure.

I've had this same problem for two days now, just a pressure in my lower throat I smoke so I assumed it was mucus, but I have coughed myself into a sore chest trying to hack it up. I have tried puking, but that's not easy for me swallowing big gulps of water, everything. It is driving me mad! I hope it resloves it's self soon.
