Hello all. I fully intend on going to the doctor next week, but I wanted to know if I could get some idea of what could be going on.

First of all, I'm a 22 year old female. For about the last 5 or 6 days I've had a feeling in my throat (upper left, in the back, just behind the uvula is what it feels like). It's getting on my nerves. It feels like there's a piece of food there or that I half-swallowed a hair or something. It doesn't hurt at all, but it feels like if I'm not careful I'll inhale it (which isn't physically possible, but it's in that location). I have no fever, no swollen glands, and there's nothing visually amiss based on my inspection with a flashlight in front of the mirror. One thing I did notice last night when I was looking was a semi-circular white ring in the back of my throat around where I think the irritation is. I don't see it at all today. I've gargled, I've tried eating different foods, but nothing is helping. I had mono back in high school, but it's not even close to that. I feel fine. I haven't been sick at all in 4 years. It just feels like I should be able to cough up whatever is causing this, but nothing works.

Any ideas on what could be going on??

I have a similar problem but i feel as if i have a lump in my throat. When I swallow it, it seems as if it is gone but it is not. I can it, drink-there is no problem with that but the lump is persistent and it won’t go away.
I had it once already and it went away on its own. It’s been a month now that I had it. I find sources that tell this is some kind of muscle spasm in the upper esophagus that is being either caused by stress or worsened by stress. Nothing helps but maybe muscle relaxants. I am going to see my doc again and ask for these drugs. When I went to see her for the first time, there was nothing in my throat.

I have no idea if I'm experiencing the same thing the doctor above mentioned, but I too can feel some pressure in my throat from time to time and this has been occuring every couple of months or so since I was about 10 years old. I first discovered it one day when I felt something in my throat while brushing my teeth. I accidently hit the back of my throat a few times with the brush (as I was brushing a little fast). Suddenly I started gaging and I almost threw up. I coughed really hard and out came a small chunk of hard yellow substance.
As time has gone by I have become used to it building up in my throat. Every so often as I feel the pressure build I will get in front of the mirror and stick my tounge out and squeeze my throat muscles. This usually causes a small amount of yellow substance to start sticking out of the back of my thoat. I'll then take the end of my toothbrush or a q-tip and push near the affected area and watch the think chunky yellow substance come squeezing out of my throat like some really thick toothpaste. I know - it's disgusting.
Once you get it out it smells horrible. Almost exactly like c**p. Seriously. It is horrible smelling.
I have found that I have one friend who also discovered this on his own and has been doing the same ever since.
I have noticed that I can tell when I need to 'drain' it because I can either feel the excess pressure or I can taste a wierd taste in my mouth. The only other clue is excessive bad breath - which I have been able to identify.
I've really wondered what this was... Any clues?

I have had the same feeling (lump in throat) there is no pain and I dont notice it when I eat. I have been to the doctor many times about this and finally they are sending me for a barium swallow. I was originally diagnosed with acid reflux disorder and put on prevacid. It seems worse in the morning when I drink coffee. Has anyone else had any uper GI work done? Such as xrays or the procedure where they stick the small camera down your throat?

I too have the same problem and never thought of checking the internet until I saw your posting and easy enough I found articles about it. It's called tonsil stones.

I have been feen feeling like somthing is stuck in my throat as well. I am a nurse and I can't figure it out. It started after I drank some soda and it didn't go down right. The pain was awful but after it subsided I felt like there was a lump in my esophagus in the top area of my chest and it felt like it moved around. I went to the doctor twice and he said it was reflux and prescribed Protonix twice a day. At first it was better but now it is back and it is a little painful to move my neck and forget about lying down. It feels like a pill that won't go down. I can swallow and breathe fine but it is driving me nuts. I would appreciate any ideas, I think the doctor thinks I'm crazy.

I would just like to point out that the guy posing as a doctor up there was clearly a fraud. For a start you cant have a viral bacteria, its a virus or a bacteria. And Meningitus is the inflamation of the meninges not a throat infection. His treatment suggestion was straight out of the keystone cops. Bonkers. thankyou.

I've been reading online because I have the same problem. Go into a search engine and lookup "Throat Nodules". It's probably nother serious though. Keep an eye on it. Even though 99 percent of these nodules are benign, one percent is lethal cancer.

I'm on here because I have been experiencing the tight throat/lump feeling on and off for the last several weeks, usually lasting about one day. The last several days has been ongoing and it is driving me crazy! I plan on calling my doctor in the a.m. I found one site that seems to hit the nail on the head and makes me rest a little easier: voicedoctor.net/therapy/cps.html
of course I know we should all go to the doctor instead of self diagnosing but until I can get there I had to have some kind of idea as to what this could be. I think it is stress related.

I'm really watching this space with interest, I always viewed the constant lump in my throat as a side effect of smoking but since I gave up it is still there. I also wonder if it could effect snoring?
There seem to be many people with this "lumpy throat" but not many answers!

i have the same problem with little hard yellowy things in my throat, but i also have GERD, it's a form of acid reflux. i asked my doctor about them and he said it was because my esophogus is constantly inflamed because of the acid so because of that, the food doesn't digest properly so it sits in the back of my throat until i get it out. it has nothing to do with meningitis though, well not from anything that i've heard anyways cause i've never had mono or meningitis. good luck though
