I went to the specialist and he took one look at my throat and said your going to hate me, but you need those out. He asked me if I wanted him to go over the procedure with me, I said no I will chicken out if you tell me. So what do I do, look on the internet.......Big mistake......I was going to have my surgery May 15th but read stories about not eatting. I love food!!!!! I am going to New York on the 21st of May so I resheduled my appointment for after my visit from New York. Can't go to New York and not be able to eat that would be a hugh sin. My new surgery date is June 5th. Maybe I can gain wait from New York and be back to my normal weight after the surgery. I can NOT afford to lose any weight. My biggest worry is I HATE water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE strep throat more so I will take the suffering for a couple of weeks. Good luck to all those that have it done before and after me.

You are right in waiting to have the surgery until after your trip to New York. Recovery does take a little time. A tonsillectomy is usually done on an outpatient basis, with you returning home the same day as the surgery. Rarely, are you observed overnight in the hospital and return home the day after the surgery. Complete recovery can take about 2 weeks. During recovery, it is recommended to eat soft, easy-to-swallow food and to drink a lot of cold fluids. So if you like food and want to partake when you are on vacation, you definately want to wait. That is, if the pain and symptoms now are not that bad. Doctors recommend that using a humidifier at home will bring comfort and decrease healing time, so that is something to consider.
Best of luck to you and have a great vacation and surgery. Hope you will let us know how it goes.
