Has anyone else ever tried this? Give blood before you start your base training (10 miles a day or more). I find that if I can push through the intiall hurt from lack of blood. That once the blood returns in a week or so, I feel like Superman..
I get use to running with a pint low and then you get full o2 back... Just wondering if anybody else does this..?
Dont think this method is good for newbies although this might help some get the time they are looking for rather quick...

Don't you get really light-headed after giving blood and then running?
I pretty much stopped giving blood when I got so involved in training that I didn't want to take the down time that giving blood would cause. :|

Dont take a down time.. Hell yea the most I do after giving a pint is 5-6 miles hard... But it works.. We tested it one year in college.. Me and another guy gave blood and the others did not. We were on our butts in practice for 2 days but we completeed the workouts... After about a week we were in better shape..
This test might have been scewed because he and I were the best on the team, but I notice a difference.. And no one ever talks about this. Very little risk with a lot to gain.. I think it is a kick ass tip.

I give blood from time to time. The effect for me is only one mediocre day or possibly two following the draw as I recover, then I'm back on my training scheme. I haven't noticed anything remarkable about the following week, but maybe it's because I recover plenty quick. The most important recovery step when giving blood is to keep yourself extra hydrated afterwards.
WBK, are you outta school now? Have you tried it in recent years at all to try and duplicate the effect you got?

I don't think it sounds like a BAD idea, I just have to wonder how much of the "kick" is mental? like a new pair of shoes... (I KNOW shoes make me run faster).

I know for about a week after I give blood I have to put more effort in to get simular results. I can't imagine trying a long run right after giving blood. I don't believe it's good for your body either. The people that take your blood advise you to not to any exercise for 5 hours afterwards to give your body time to recoup.

wait 5 hoursWell I did not mean go directly to the course. But doing it that day or even the next has worked.. I have done this several times (5) and the effects are much more than mental.. Try it once, if you are a serious runner, it will work for you. It has worked for numerous teammates and competitors...

Your body will regenerate new blood with a new capacity to exchange air for the system. Make sure to supplement with good foods such as red meat for the iron and creatine and green veggies for the iron.
Whiteboy killa, you might run a little faster without the pointy horns. But then you will terrify the competition too.
