I've never really had a 'normal' period. I'd always skip months or have them for longer then a week. It never really bothered me though because I'm a bigger girl and I know with bigger girls periods aren't always 'normal'.

I'm 18 now and my child is almost two. After I had her my periods were 'normal' for about a year. Then came October and I didn't have a period until about late Feb. I took around five pregnancy tests during this time and all came out negative.

The beginning of March I finally got my period and I still have it. For the whole March and half of April I wasn't too worried about it. But now it is almost mid-May and my period is getting heavier. The size of the blood clots coming out of me actually woke me up.

My bed spread is a massacre and I've been through more then 3 huge boxes of tampons and pads. I've been a nervous wreck about it for awhile now and started crying. People tell me they 'bet I had a miscarriage' and my mind went berserk. So I came online and was kind of relieved to read these other posts.

I know there are all sorts of things that could be the cause of these prolonged periods. I'm worried alot and keep thinking about the worst possible scenerios such as cancers, hysterectomies, etc.

I'm off to see the doctor today, and I will come back and post another topic about what he said, for those who are too scared to go. I myself am scared, but I'm just so tired of this period.

Thanks.

I want to go to the doctor but i still live at home because of school and find it embarrasing, and i work alot fo i dont have time to go. I am also a bigger girl and want to know if I really should go or just wait it out.

I'm 16 almost 17, and I have the exact same problem, except my flow varies from light to heavy. I can go months without having a period and then get it for months as well. You said you were going to the doctor, what did he tell you?

WTF is goin on?

I am 21 and im goin through the same thing. I started my period i think back at the end of April. It was here for a little over a week, then it stopped for maybe 3 days. But it came right back and its been mostly heavy and I CLOT a lot (big clots- size of scallops (ugh...) and sometimes stringy. Sometimes it looks as if it is about to stop and then its right back to heavy mode.

My periods are never regular. I can have 3 or 4 periods a year and to me thats normal. I asked different doctors about it and i got various responses but by me being a big gurl and stressin a lot the doctor dismissed it as nothing serious. Strangely enough an ex-friend of mine who i cant call and have this conversation with told me she was experiencing the same symtoms back in November 2007 that for some reason i am having now. The last thing i heard from her is it was some type of blood disease they had to give her pills for.

Ive been very frustrated and hesitant to go to the doctor for 1 i dont have insurance and 2 i hate hospital wait times u can be in there for 12 hrs or more especially here in over crowded Los Angeles. But im scared.....im glad i found this site at least there are other people i can relate to. But on the other hand im starting to think there is maybe a connection between us (ex.) maybe its something we all ate/drank thats causing this. if anybody has any updates id really appreciate it my email is ohlgurl@yahoo.com

I am 21 about to turn 22 in November and have been on my period since mid july. I went to see the doctor after having being on my period for 6 weeks, since it was almost time for my annual she was going to do that. But when she went to look she said that I was bleeding too much for her too, and recommended I go see another doctor. Because I waited so late, I am now a anemic and will have to start iron pills. I to am a big girl, but this has happened to me before in which i bleed for 45 days straight, they put me on birth control at the time and it seemed to help, but once i got off them, my period went back to being abnormal. I did not have a period for 4 or 5 months before this happened. This wednesday, I have to go get tests done to see what this....what I find crazy is that we go with these problems and the doctors tell us that we are fine and nothing is wrong but yet can not tell us ONE way to fix this problem?

I will let you guys know what she says and does.

I'm 28 yrs. old and I also have the same problem. I have been having irregular periods since 2002 after my D&C for a miscarriage I had. After that I have very heavy, clotting periods that lasts more than a month at a time. I'm overweight and now I'm excersing and eating healthy to lose the extra weight. I need to know what is the cause of this. I'm trying to have a baby and being like this is not possible.

Hey everyone I have sat here and read some of these and like yous i am a big women i am a size 18 to 22 and i have had regular periods until i got to about 19 or 20 then they decided to just come and go as they please. Thankfully i have a very loving and understandable fiance. I have had my period for 2months maybe longer and before that i had it for 2 months........i have now gone on iron pills to make my iron come up again from losing so much blood and i have tried a tablet that is suppose to stop my period but unfortunately i have still got it and its very heavy..................the doctor said that i can try the contraceptive pill and that should regulate my periods.

I found out last year by having a scan that i have PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome) i know it sounds bad and for some people it can be but my sister in law has PCOS as well and had a baby last year in September because PCOS can make it harder to have children. but there is always hope out there .......just go to the doctor and demand that they do something because it isn't healthy having your periods all the time!!!!!javascript:emoticon(';-)')

I say to yous all ladies go to the doctor and dont leave until they help you and make them do any scans that they can to see hats going on cause it can always be a thybroid as well which is just a mass in your uterus that can make you bleed more then usual and they can do something to help that .......................DONT BE AFRAID TO ASK YOUR DOCTORS FOR HELP THATS WHAT THEY GET PAID FOR AND ITS THERE JOB!!!

Hi everyone,

Being overweight, stressed out and worry are all the common symptoms we have, I am 33, 34 in May and as of this moment I have gone through 5 packs of (24) napkins and next Monday starts my 5th week, ive been doing this since I was 12 and I started my period at 8 and no one seems to know how to stop it other than having a baby which has been IMPOSSIBLE up to this day or going on some sort of low dosage hormone pills which means no babies.

I remember actually going through 12 months with no period at all. my boyfriend was obviously happy. I would get excruciating pain and no period. Another time I would see one single drop, the severe back pain, to die headaches and no period, when the period did come I swore my uterus had crawled out of me while I was standing up. I though it was because I was living in the Caribbean, I thought it was because I was Black, or because I was too sexually active (that's another story).

I am 5ft 7" tall, and I currently weigh 240lbs the last 20 I put on in 2 years (which will be HELL to get off). I shave my face every couple of days, my boyfriend keeps telling me I like sex too much. he is older so he can't keep up LOL so now it's his time to recover. The clots are enough to turn all the water in the toilet bowl red, stringy one day and next thing you know i'm standing having a conversation with a client and I have to excuse myself to go to the bathroom only to find that this thing is coming out of me nut no pain whatsoever. I actually started looking at the clots to see if there were any babies (I know it sounds corny but these things make you worried) Loosing weight is what the doc ordered, I did that, the clots disappeared, but the pain was AWFUL, can't have it both ways I guess. My suggestion is, have your children early like mid to late twenties (if it suits you) I wish I did.

I just wanted to say I have polycystic ovarian syndrrome, and the doctor has told me in the past that skipping cycles for months at a time, and then having really long heavy periods, bleeding after intercourse, spotting, and never really having a cycle, are all normal symptoms of the syndrome. She has said the extra bleeding is do to the lining of the uterus building up thicker from missed cycles, and will either shed through spotting, or sometimes result in a long heavy periods. (Which for me seems to always happen on vacation! Darn'it Lol). Other symptoms are difficulty concieving a child, high blood sugar, etc. This syndrome is the source of my long battle w fertility, and often it will go away if you get down to a healthy weight. I am trying this through diet and exercise. Wish me luck, I am 32 and I am running out of fertile time!

I am 24 and have always had messed up periods. I could have one for over a month or not have one for 3 years. I've never EVER had more than 3 in one year. THIS year, however, I have had one every month except for May and June. They were normal periods, which surprised. This month I started on Monday ( today is wednesday ) I have been bleeding HEAVILY and I have lots of clotting. It's to early to tell how today is going to go, but yesterday was horrid. I wore a super tampon and a pad throughout yesterday. Every 20 minutes I had to change my tampon and for every two tampons I went through I needed to put on a new pad. It was ridiculous. Last night I went to sleep wearing a super tampon and a huge overnight pad. I leaked through and it looked almost as if I was stabbed and bled all over. The cramps are horrible.

It took 2 years to conceive my daughter, who says you cannot conceive without a period?... I did. Since it took so long to conceive my daughter we started trying for #2 a few weeks later. She is now 2.5 years old and I still have not gotten pregnant. I'm suspecting PCOS. Back in December i feel on black ice and smacked my head on a cement stair behind me, while popping my intestine through my abdominal cavity ( hernia ). I went to the ER after a couple days. I am very scared of doctors because I don't like hearing bad news. Well I went because my stomach was hurting and it got to the point where I couldn't pick my daughter up or lift even a couple pounds. All the doctor does is feel the area, tell me I have a hernia, and give me a script for ibuprofen... which I feel I needed a PAIN killer, not baby asprin. They charged me a grand total of $1,168 just for that. So to go to the doctor for this problem makes me cringe at the site of just knowing the bill will be to much. I need to go insurance hunting.

another big girl here :-) i'm a size 22-ish (size 20 on good days LOL) I started my period on Jan 2, and it's Jan 21st and it's still going strong. I went to urgent care on the 2nd day of bleeding because it was bad enough where I had to leave work because I was going through 4 overnights/hour, saturated. The doctor put me on birth control pills to stop the bleeding. It helped a little, but now it's back to being heavy. And the clotting is absolutely horrible. I had a 3 inch clot literally plop off the pad and onto the floor when I sat to use the toilet.

While at urgent care, they also found out my blood-sugar was 335. So in addition to BCP i was put on Actoplus for my blood-sugar. I'm already taking benazipril for my blood pressure. So whereas I was a borderline diabetic, I am officially a type II diabetic. Not sure if this relates to the bleeding tho.

I went back to the doctors a few days ago because I wasn't, and am still, not getting any sleep. I wake up when I feel clots passing and i'm so paranoid and worried that the blood is leaking everywhere i get up to change. At this second doctor's appointment, my hemoglobin had dropped form 16 to 10.7 and I'm now on iron pills and colax to deal with the constipation that comes from taking so much iron.

I'm feeling so lightheaded some days and I have an appt with the gyn this saturday. I was seeing my PCP the last two appointments because my insurance requires a doctor's referral to see the gyn. So I'm seeing the gyn on Saturday and I hope it's nothing serious. I can't stand this bleeding. I'm only wearing dark color pants to work because i'm terrified i'll leak through my clothes. ALl this blood loss is making me so tired and it's making me too tired to have reading time with my 7 yr old son, and driving is killing me. I feel so weak. I hate this!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad I came across these posts. I will update what the doc's say if anyone asks for an update, otherwise...pray for me!!!! :-(
