I failed to ask my surgeon this question and I have a friend who said he had to wear the boot 24/7 after hammer toe surgery meaning he slept in it at night.  I have a shoe instead of a boot.  Do I need to sleep in the shoe at night?  Thanks so much for answering.

Hi, gpat51.

If you are given the shoe, that means you can take it off during sleep. Doctors think you won't make any sudden movements and won't hurt yourself.

People with boots need to wear them the whole time during their recovery, but people with shoes don't.

Happy recovery!
